Guest Cent Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 - get yourself a ActivSys IrDA Modem - Install the drivers for it on your Laptop/PC - plug it in - On the phone go to Modems/Accessories/Modem Link - press Menu/Activate and line up with the IrDA Modem - now your PC should already detect a new modem and will install the drivers automatically - now go to Start/Settings/Network Connections - New Connection - Connect to the Web - Setup Manually - Name the ISP whatever you want - as Tel. Number enter *99# - finish the wizard (if the dialog comes up asking you which modem select the IrDA one) Now check in your taskbar if your phone is still connected using IrDA (you shall see a funny flashing Icon for Infrared connections). Now you can enter the web using GPRS .... just don't exceed your limit :D PS. ActivSys Modems : http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=ACT-IR4000US
Guest Firaas Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 You will need an initialisation string to work the IRDA modem with many OS's, here's my full instructions: On your SPV, Programs > More > More > Accessories > Modem Link. Select IRComm and Menu > Activate. Align the infrared port with that on your PC, the PC should recognise the connection as Standard modem over infrared. It will install the drivers for the device. Once installed, go to Start > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options. Select Standard modem over infrared and click Properties. Go to the advanced screen, and enter the following initialisation string: +cgdcont=1,"IP","orangeinternet","",0,0 Then, go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Create a new connection. Create a new connection, connect it through Standard modem over infrared, and put the phone number in as "*99#". Dial the number and bam!
Guest Cent Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 Didnt need that at all on XP though :0
Guest Firaas Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Hmm, interesting - I'm on XP Home and my phone wouldn't initialise as a modem for 5 hours because the initialisation string I was using, and the one Orange was giving was incorrect...
Guest tiita Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 on xp you dont need to install modem drivers for most IRDA phones as the standard modem over IR link works fine. the spv is not exception did anybody managed to get the bastard to work over GSM?
Guest wideawake Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 :D Great works a treat :( But......has anyone had trouble with the IrDa saying that it is interupted at approx 2 min intervals? I don't think I have set any time outs on my phone (it auto connects even after it says it has been interupted) It only occurs when downloading a web page.
Guest Lojt Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 What if you are running win98 and it doesn't recognize it as a modem...?
Guest HelloDave Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 What if you are running win98 and it doesn't recognize it as a modem...? Yup, I have this problem too :D Can't find a solution to it - guess we need to wait for a driver. I've tried installing a standard 33.6K modem on the virtual COM port and my laptop finds the SPV but gives me a Blue Screen of Death whenever it tries to connect.
Guest tricky Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 hmmmm, well i have an issue with the irda connection 2, have xp pro on my lappy, i can tfr to the phone on irda, it detects its close? i can tell it that there is a modem link? the lappy detects the spv (not a smartphone as b4 with my 2 other faulty phones) makes a conection, with the ir icons in the menu bar then as soon as you do anything on the pc it drops the connection on the modem link! but its the phone that drops the connection not the pc? have had a nightmare with this and had 2 previous faulty phones! this one will tfr via irda where as the other 2 would not? i have slowed my ir port down to 38,400 but still cant keep a modem connection? if i cant keep a connection i cant setup the dialup connection? id very frustrating cos this is as close as i have got in 2 weeks of trying? still i will persevere and keep reading how you guys get on! tricky
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 i had an irda connection earleir at work (crappy lappy at home is without an ir port :D) xp pro picked it up as soon as activesync was initiated and listed it in modems, i'll try connecting to an isp tomoro. no probs with the ir so far, other than tranfers contacts between the spv and nokias :/
