Guest undead79 Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 Below are the FREE tools I am using and I think they are pretty cool! Utilities ===== (1) PHM Registry Editor http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/ This allows you to change settings that you are unable to do so using the WM6 itself. You need it for things like setting default "Keyboard", Disable sms notification and more below. (2) HTC Phone Pad (Stop smsing, surfing, or writing documents with stylus!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311290 If you want Phone Pad to be default keyboard To make 'Phone Pad' Default: i) Open your registry editor (e.g. PHM, Resco, etc). ii) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip iii) Change DefaultIm's string value to {51A2CB38-154E-4C92-A625-A83871C99EC2} iv) Soft-reset. To make 'Keyboard' Default: i) Open your registry editor (e.g. PHM, Resco, etc). ii) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip iii) Change DefaultIm's string value to {42429667-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9} iv) Soft-reset Note: The only on and off problem is the auto hide wordlist might not really disappear at times but that isn't significant at all. It is pretty easy to use and friendly, from T9, to 'abc', to '123' with several languages supported. CAPs, symbols, etc. I am just not sure how to change the skin thats all. (3) Today Agenda http://tiews.info/index.php?show=software%...nda〈=en This plugin though it doesn't say it support wm6, I have tested and been using it for days. Very friendly and allow you to monitor yr calendar appointment, be it multiple appt on 1 day, or appointment up to many days ahead! (4) Alarm Clock http://www.fixdown.com/english/pda/list/24.htm Tips & Tricks Section ============== (1) Those who hates the "Message Sent" notification after sending an SMS, this is the steps to remove the bubble notification...this is the STEP by STEP method to do it in case some of you guys dont get it right... 1. First, you will need to download a Registry Editor to help you do it... a good one will be the freeware PHM Registry Editor 2. using the Registry Editor, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox 3. Next, click on Inbox (make sure the Inbox is highlighted) and select Edit, New Key 4. Name the New Key as "Settings" 5. Click on "Settings" (make sure the Settings is highlighted) and select Edit, New String Value 6. On "Value name:", key in SMSNoSentMsg and in "Value data", key in 1 7. Soft reset your device and test it with one SMS, and you will notice that the SMS Sent bubble is being disabled (2) I think many have problems with CE Star, I propose another alternative for those who just want to READ CHINESE sms/mms/emails... There are various ways of doing so, most involve copying font files to our internal memory... So I have found the one that requires the smallest size of font file to be copied to our limited internal memory!!! 1. download this font SC_Song here --> http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/sunfon.ac3 2. Copy this to your \Windows directory on your mobile device 3. In your registry, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\ add a new key call FontLink. Then, under this newly added FontLink key add another key call SystemLink. Example, you should now have the following in your registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink 4. Now add the following 4 "String" values to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink [Name of value] [Value] Times New Roman \Windows\sunfon.ac3,SC_Song Arial \Windows\sunfon.ac3,SC_Song Courier New \Windows\sunfon.ac3,SC_Song Tahoma \Windows\sunfon.ac3,SC_Song 5. Do a soft reset and you are done. (3) Custom Alarm Tone? Put "wav files" in your limited internal memory at \Windows (4) GPRS as internet connection. Weather update default connection --> GPRS If you want to prevent using GPRS as your default Internet Connection, it can be easily done too by going to Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Connections--> Advanced--> Select Network and you will come to Network Management... on Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should be connect using Instead of the Phone Network Provider Settings, change it to My ISP(modem) or My Work Network(wifi)...and then you will have the Unable to connect message... To enable GPRS again, select back Phone Network Provider Settings Note: The "G" on the phone doesn't mean you are paying for GPRS 24 hours a day. It just say the network is available. (5) MSN Messenger. It seems no way to stop it from copying all the contacts to your phone. solution 1: do a "Switch account" this will remove all the contacts from your phone. But you have to download them again if you use MSN again.. solution 2: put these contacts in another category, so that it will flood your contact list when you wanna call someone by using the filter/view by category method (6) Custom Ring Tones & SMS Tones --> mp3, etc on storage card Put them in MicroSD card folder "My Documents" Software that I am looking for!! ==================== 1) one that automatic lock the keypad when the phone is not use after x seconds. 2) one that allow me to customize my profiles. like Busy, Silent, General, etc modes 3) Any nice games that we can play on this device which has limited buttons? Cheers!

Guest Cobalt Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Nice one - that automatic GPRS connection was really frustrating! All fixed now though. Many thanks!
Guest Gasman2 Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Great selection of tips / links etc... Sorry, I have nothing to contribute, but hopefully someone else will soon!
Guest skrabbins Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 thanks, some good tips there! 1) one that automatic lock the keypad when the phone is not use after x seconds. Have you tried slide2unlock? I really like it. The developer's just started a new version that uses much less memory - check it out... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332185
Guest mandt Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Ok I've had my touch a week now and I LOVE IT :( Cool things I've put on it Touch Settings MUST HAVE!!! Lets you fully customise the cube, including making the Pictures link go to the Storage card, and will let you get YOUR local weather, not a feed from 25 miles away! PocketCM ImageViewer very cool looking app that lets you flick between your photos with a swipe of your finger. Currently up to version 0.3 and showing a lot of promise S2U2 (Slide to unlock) if you don't know what slide to unlock is then check it out! new 'back to basics' version is much improved The apps I've put on are ones that build on the thing that makes the Touch such a cool phone (Yes I did say Cool, and its WM ;) ) People are amazed by it and the way you interact with it, I only hope future WM devices continue in the same direction
Guest Tanek Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 > 2) one that allow me to customize my profiles. like Busy, Silent, General, etc modes (NOTE: not free, but the only one i know of that can do this) http://www.pocketx.net/products/photocontactspro_ppc/ Photo Contacts Pro Supports automatic switching between sound profiles based on time, and whether you are in a meeting that's flagged as "Busy" in your calendar. Sound profiles fully customizable as far as I can tell. And you can assign individual SMS tones to categories/persons etc
Guest Tuzick Posted November 25, 2007 Report Posted November 25, 2007 Great tips, thank you. :) I still have problems with SMS notification sound. :D No matter where do I copy my custom sounds (windows or my docs) and regardless of the format (.WAV or .WMA or .MP3), the message notification sound list stays the same. No new custom sounds there. I do the same thing on my old WM5 phone and have no problems. All my custom sounds are there. Only WM6 has that problem. It allows me to assign custom ringtones to my contacts and that's about it. No custom sound for SMS or E-mail notification. Also is there any way to clean the Start-up menu? I want to remove that useless AT&T Mall menu. Every time I attempt to delete these shortcuts WM6 says I can't delete system files. At the same time it won't allow me to change attributes and remove system attribute prior deletion. :( Any suggestions? ;) Below are the FREE tools I am using and I think they are pretty cool!
