Guest colonel_butt Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 (edited) Battery Life Do you use 3G/HSDPA data all the time ? If not, switch the phone to GPRS only. This will add 30% or more to battery life. Start -> Settings -> Phone -> All Calls -> Band Selections -> GSM900/1800 You can always switch back to AUTO when you need the data access/web browsing. (note:GPRS is fine for instant messaging or email) Free programs 1. Avantgo (www.avantgo.com) - sign up and pick channels (news, the times, bmw magaze, etc.) and following instructions to install software on phone (use Windows Smartphone software) - Every time you sync. with your PC - get latest news/magazines on your phone. Good if you want to avoid being bored on the train home - Can also sync 'over the air' , but might be expensive unless you have data in your contract 2. Video player (for divx and pretty much everything): http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about 3. Get yahoo2go. Even without yahoo email and flickr account, great fun for maps, news, weather, etc. - type: http://us.get.go.yahoo.com into the browser on the i600 Nice purchased software 1. Watch TV channels on your phone (only works with 3G/HSDPA data strem or wifi) http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDet...roductId=210271 (have to enter your phone as the Samsung Blackjack (the name for it in the US) and costs $24) 2. www.handango.com is a nice site to purchase Windows Mobile software Upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 WM6 has a number of speed and functionality enhancements. There is no need to upgrade if you are happy and it is also not available yet for your version, but this is the URL to check for your flag: http://www.samsungmobile.com/promotion/i600/index.jsp Email There are five ways to get email: 1. Pop3. Setup in Start -> messaging -> New account and enter your pop3 details. use send/receive to pick up email 2. IMAP. Same as above. IMAP is superior to POP3 but not all servers have this capability yet. with IMAP the emails stay on the server so if you access your email from mutiple clients you will always see the same population, unlike pop3 where after you have downloaded to one PC/handheld, you can no longer see on others. More details: http://www.imap.org/ 3. Microsoft Push email: The best way. For this you need an email provider with Exchange server. The best free service I know is: www.mail2web.com 4. Blackberry. Software called blackberry connect can make WM devices emulate blackberrys 5. Custom client (like yahoo2go) Edited September 11, 2007 by colonel_butt
