spv e650 wifi problems

Recommended Posts

this is my first post and I'm really hoping someone can help:

I've not long had the e650 and have no problem with it other than wifi connectivity. The handset can connect to/see my sky netgear router but I'm completely unable to browse any pages at all - whenever I select a page it sits at 'locating' for an age before stating the page cannot be found.

I can't see any else on the phone itself to change and I'm not sure where or what on my router might need altering?

Can some kind soul please help?

make sure your wifi network TYPE (in connections, WLAN, ) is selected as "Internet"?? I know that was what messed with my connection at the beginning.

In your wifi settings, set it to "best performance" - on my dash on other settings the wifi seems a bit dodgy as well.

thanks for the replies guys...I've tried having it set to 'internet' as opposed to 'private/work' network and same deal...as for "best performance" is that on the handset or your router? I'll check both but I don't recall seeing that setting on either.

So if you've both managed to get wifi working on your e650 is it nice and fast and do you have the handset in flight mode at the time? I'm really tearing my hair out with this one...

I've now tried the handset with an Orange Live box as well as my Sky netgear router and still no joy, my settings are pretty much as follows:

network type: internet

this is a hidden network: n/a

authentication: WPA-PSk

Data encryption: TKIP

use IEEE 802.1x network access control

in actual fact, apart from entering the network key, I've not altered any settings...but still the same outcome.

On the orange live box the wifi signal indicator keeps alternating between no signal and trying to log on...but I've been told the orange live box doesn't like the spv e650 for some reason...which, wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Is anyone using this handset successfully with a sky netgear router? I'm going crackers...

Hi,

Check the power mode settings for Wifi on your E650 and ensure 'best performance' is selected rather than 'auto', as in the reply above.

I'm using a sky netgear and it works fine now ;) (I had the same teething issues).

i think this could be the problem. uncheck this and see what happens.

i use a netgear thing that is is the same model (i think) as the Sky unit and i have no problems at all...

success at last...I've just flashed my old dlink g604t with the Oz g624t firmware, altered the settings...managed to extract my sky username and password from the poxy netgear router (I'm sure it's not really poxy...it's just sky's awful firmware) and I'm browsing via wifi on my lovely spv e650.

Thanks to all who offered help and suggestions...and to Samsonite - I may now try reflashing the sky netgear router to the non sky firmware...I fail to see why I shouldn't be able to use any wifi device via sky's router because of their restrictive firmware and t&c's.

Just a quick note...

Iv'e not updated my G604T yet... but it does work, however the performance is absolutely S**T as for DNS pass through, i altered the router settings to NOT use auto found DNS, and instead i put my ISP's DNS settings in the DHCP DNS settings field. It seems that if you use auto it doesn't propagate correctly, not quite sure why yet, but it just doesnt...

;)
