Guest WM guy Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Hi friends! Well, next year i'm starting university. I just wanted to have your advices about which subject to choose.I now do computing, physics, mathematics, english and french. I want to do a course which is concerned with computers(i like technology),where i will get lots of money in the future.I like programming.(writing database progs for shops, pharmacy, etc).
Guest WM guy Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 I forgot to mention that i fear i may not understand anything about programming at university level.Though i like programming,i get frustrated when i make an error and my program becomes buggy.
Guest goochy1 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Media ?? Or Business Studies should leave you many oppertunities if combined with ICT ;) Goochy1
Guest mcwarre Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Media ?? Or Business Studies should leave you many oppertunities if combined with ICT  Goochy1 I don't think so..... Try Engineering (communications) that's where the money is ;)
Guest The Doctor Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 I don't think so..... Try Engineering (communications) that's where the money is ;) Well I'm going to university to read Electrical Engineering, may specialise in comms during my third year  Phil
Guest WM guy Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Ah,communications engineer?!That sounds good! But is it Beng in what??What's the approximate cost?Less than £1000
Guest WM guy Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 (edited) Sorry,i mean £10,000...Where's the cheapest good university in london where i can do communications engineering? Edited September 15, 2007 by WM guy
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Heh, cheap and London don't go together ;) Manchester is good for engineering. The only others i can think of off the top of my head are London based, Imperial, Brunel etc, but you'll pay a heafty premium to live in the city. I'm at Surrey, another good uni for engineering but an expensive area to live in...
Guest nanoelite007 Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Well my particular major is going to be in Philosophy and metaphysics along with some nueroscience and behavior minors. they kinda incorperate a new way to think of spirituality and helping ot make mankind a more productive and egoless race.. thats just me...
Guest OzzMosiz Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 (edited) I'm in computing (never went to uni though). Can I be extremely blunt. Computing and services are going down the pan in the long term (thanks to Globalisation - offshoring to cheap countries). Stay clear of Media studies - waste of time. If you want a career for the money, and I mean GOOD money, go for sciences (chemist, biologist, engineering, err minds gone blank etc) If you want a job in computing, be commited to be the VERY best. Programming wise, C, Java, are good basis, learning a database language would be good, SQL, MYSQL, Oracle (very in demand). As we have a big banking industry in the UK (at the moment), technologies like Firewall, Security, Networking are sought (but for how long?) Cisco networks, UNIX Admin/security and Firewall technologies would be good to learn. All depends where your heart lies and which you think you'd enjoy. Edited September 26, 2007 by OzzMosiz
Guest little_mumford Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Well I just started.. and I am doing physics.... I like it and apparently you can do a lot with it although I just wanna do more and more phyics! ;) (talking of starting uni i have just been playing wiv my new(2nd hand) varioII and have encountered a small prob :D http://www.modaco.com/Connecting-WPA-RADIU...tml#entry844655 but seriously do what every you enjoy or else u will just suffer for 3 years, although saying that I do have a MATHS module to do help me please! Stu

Not enough people are doing sciences (i.e. proper degrees - not this noddy media rubbish) - that's where the dough will be I believe. Edited September 26, 2007 by OzzMosiz

Dam right... media studies... seriously what use is media studies to advance society at all, in my opinion all the media does is spread ideas that play to their advantage!
