Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 OK, i want: Critical: * * T5600 or higher Core 2 Duo CPU * Preferably no lower than 80GB HDD * 1GB or higher RAM * Wifi/BT integrated Would be nice (but by no means essential!): * Card reader * Avoiding Acer * Anything better than Intel GMA 950 gfx processor * Fingerprint reader Budget: £550! Currently i've only really come up with the HP NC6400, however it looks like i may have to drop to a T5300 to get what i want. So, any altenatives would be appreciated! ;)
Guest goochy1 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Well i don't see why you could get most of all that lot for under £550 I have the Advent 7109B which has all of the following: Intel Celeron M410 1.46 GHz 15.4 inch screen Intel 940 GML (Calistoga) + ICH7-M - up to 128mb shared which supports GMA 950 60GB HDD - (that could be found higher though i'm sure) DVD RW Wireless 4 in 1 card reader 3 usb Firewire TV out all that for £399.99 (not in sale) so i'm sure you'd manage to find it all no problem (though i've never seen one with finger prints ??? ) Hope all that jargon helps ;) Goochy1
Guest Moonbow Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Well i don't see why you could get most of all that lot for under £550 I have the Advent 7109B which has all of the following: Intel Celeron M410 1.46 GHz 15.4 inch screen Intel 940 GML (Calistoga) + ICH7-M - up to 128mb shared which supports GMA 950 60GB HDD - (that could be found higher though i'm sure) DVD RW Wireless 4 in 1 card reader 3 usb Firewire TV out all that for £399.99 (not in sale) so i'm sure you'd manage to find it all no problem (though i've never seen one with finger prints ??? ) Hope all that jargon helps  Goochy1 Okay...helpful post...so your laptop has: < 15.4in screen...? NO T5600 or higher Core 2 Duo CPU...? NO 80Gb or higher HD...? NO Integrated bluetooth..? NO Fingerprint reader..? NO Better than Intel GMA950 gfx...? NO All it has that mono asked for is 1Gb RAM, wifi and a card reader which are not difficult to find.. Sorry I don't mean to flame but why did you post that..? And @mono: At £550 budget that is asking a lot! The main problem is your choice of processor...T5600 or more means you will be unlikely to find one new for <£550. eg. HERE is one of the cheaper I could find, which has the CPU, WiFi, BT, HD and RAM. But if you want more RAM, and a graphics card better the the gma950..then that is gonna raise the price a lot as well. As I imagine the card reader would as well. If you are looking for a new laptop, I think you may be able to get one that just meets all your critical requirements for the top of your budget. But if you are looking for more RAM, better graphics and a better CPU than that then each small increase will dramatically increase the cost. Card readers in laptops are reasonably common so again that shouldn't be a problem, but fingerprint readers are not and so again are likely to increase the cost a fair bit. I would recommend a look at some on eBay...although do your research as sometimes the final prices get really inflated...but you can find some good deals, and may be able to get more of what you want for your price. Hope that helps. ;)

Now where was the need for that? I also said if you'd bother to read you'd see that i did state that i had the size screen he wanted also which i forgott too mention it has bluetooth. leaving only about 4/5 points so actually it was helpful cuz that leaves another £150 so it should give him an idea. I don't understand the need for your post either if you just want to point out that my laptop isn't the greatest super computer there ever was !!!!!!!!
Guest Aquilo Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 (edited) http://uk.zepto.com/Shop/Config.aspx?confi...;notebookid=644 Customise with the -£30 hard disk, and the T52** processor, and it comes out at 564.31. Yes, slightly overbudget, but it's got most of what you asked for ;) NOTE: It does not ship with an OS. That's an advantage or disadvantage, depending on Student/Volume licensing  Edited September 17, 2007 by Aquilo
Guest Stuart_f Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 What an interesting company! Some really nice laptops there but one thing I find odd... No OS is understandable and in many cases is a bonus but not including the AC adapter by default is plain weird! If you add it back in it'll cost you £579.41 Reminds me a bit of the way budget airlines price their fares to make them look cheap.
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Hey guys, busy week for me so only just catching up! Thanks for the linkage, i appreciate its asking a lot, hence the post to see if there were any unobvious ones i'd missed! From what i've seen its basically the size thats the killer, you can pretty much get what i want in 15.4" format, however after having my 14" Samsung x05 for the past 4 years i dont think i could move to anything larger! Oh well, i guess its back to the drawing board (and wait for the savings account to boost a bit!)
