Is the SPV E650 worth buying?

Hi folks,

I've done a fair bit of research on the E650 and it sounds like just what I'm after. All the functionality I currently have with my C600 plus a proper keyboard, WiFi, without the bulk/touchscreen which I don't want. Only downsides seem to be not a very good camera and not a very fast processor.

All thes reviews I have read are glowing, but I have seen a lot of forum posts regarding Wifi not working properly and poor battery life. Has there been an update to fix this? I don't want to buy a phone and find it crippled with bugs. I have always had problems with wifi anyway.

Another questions - is there a decent amount of internal storage? The last 3 phones I have had that were supposed to be smart business phones (P900, C500 and C600) have suffered from this, and after a couple of months of normal use start complaining about running out of internal memory due to SMS/MMS messages and fragmentation, with no way of copying of the messages and no way of sorting the fragmentaion without a hard reset. unacceptable IMHO.

Anyway, is this the phone that I am hoping it will be, or is it going to be yet another disappointment that I will be stuck with for 18 months?

(Last really good phone I had was a Nokia 8310 ;) )

i dunno what they are talking about because the battery on mine is awesome - just like my C500, it can last a whole week without charging, thats including texting and making phone calls but obviously if you have bluetooth/wifi switched on it will drain the battery more.

As for the wifi, ive had no problems at all - simple and straight forward.

defo worth it

It is tempting - but if you google for "spv e650 problems" you get a LOT of pages come up.

It looks like business as usual - bring buggy, incomplete and untested phone onto market, let public do the testing, then don't release any fixes, just quietly replace phone with another rushed out untested phone ;)

its not without its own little quirks - like ghost data connections etc - but i have never had ANY WiFi or memory issues at all. Battery life is what i would expect based on usage - WiFi will kill it in about 2 hours but for normal phone/SMS etc it lasts days.

as for Googling, i searched for 'excellent SPV e650' and got 34,000 pages so thats gotta be good, right?

well you do have a 14 day no questions asked policy to cancel your contract so test the phone to "death" in those 14 days....
