Does Activesync work with a Nokia?

Hello,

I've always used handsets running Windows Mobile because I like the fact that I can just plug my phone into the PC and all my contacts are safely backed up.

I'm now looking to upgrade my i-mate SP5 and the only phone that takes my fancy is the HTC S710 but I can't find a decent tariff (only Vodafone do it).

However there are loads of deals on Nokias, so can I use Activesync to copy across my contacts to a Nokia?

(Sorry if this is a noob question, I just can't get a straight answer out of the network providers!)

You can't use Activesync on anything other than a Microsoft Windows Mobile device, but all the other manufacturers have similar facilities.

Nokia phones come with Nokia PC Suite, which does a similar job; Samsung and LG also have their own offerings. They all sync with Outlook for Contacts, Appointments, Tasks etc, though some have limits on the number of items allowed (Samsung can only handle 100 Calendar entries for instance)

So, as long as your Outlook is up to date, then you should be OK.

Thanks Neil. So basically if I went Nokia their software would sync with Outlook anyway?

Yes- as far as I know, and as long as the phone itself supports the Outlook data ;)

Another noob question !!

I get the N95 in about 10 mins just in advance question...it says its a windows mobile...does that mean it'd work with activsync ??

No- the N95 is a Symbian Series 60 device, so nothing to do with Windows Mobile.

It does come with its own synchronisation software though.
