Guest db00707 Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 Hi, I have a SPV M3100 that I have bought from someone. It was on contract but I want to use it with my Orange SIM card that is Pay As You Go. It is locked to Orange. Do I need a specific 3G SIM card? I can receive text messages on the phone but am unable to send them. I may need some settings etc, but don't know where to start to find them for this device on Pay As You Go. Does anyone have any settings for this? I am also unable to browse the internet and cannot send or receive emails. Again, I think I maybe need some settings. I was also wondering about 3G coverage. What if I don't have much in my area? How would I use the internet and email? Is it possible to connect not via 3G using GPRS or to get emails if I don't have 3G coverage where I am? Any help much appreciated. Thanks Darren
Guest El Boyo Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 Hey you don't need a 3g sim because my virgin picks up 3g signals. Use this piece of software to unlock the phone plus CID unlock: http://pof.eslack.org/hermes-unlocker/ Everything will work about this even your text messages. Alex (Worked On My VPA Compact III fine)

Alex (Worked On My VPA Compact III fine) Thanks for the reply. I'm planning on using Orange. What I need are the settings to configure access for GPRS, MMS, the internet, emails etc. If there no 3G coverage where I am, I want the phone to use the 2G network so that I can still get emails and browse the internet. I need to know what I need to do to configure and set the phone up to do that. Thanks Darren
Guest El Boyo Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 Hey You can check on the orange website where there 3g coverage is and to checked its in your area. The SIM should switch automatically between 3G and 2G anyway. Just ask for a Orange UK Settings CAB File and somebody will post one to you, I only have virgin settings. Alex
Guest jimbouk Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 I have a feeling you do need a 3g sim. I think O are the only network to only use USIMs for 3g, thus 2g customers have standard sims. The settings are dead easy. Google for rabdo's orange cab.
Guest Neil5459 Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 Orange are a PITA when it comes to 3G SIMs. I was lucky enough to get a 3G SIM by mistake with an older 2G phone, but when I upgraded my 'going out phone' to a Samsung u600 in August, I was told I couldn't have a 3G SIM, even though I have another contract with my SPV M700, and I sometimes lime to swap SIMs. I was told emphatically that the only way I could get a 3G SIM was to but one PAYG ;) So, yes, you do need a 3G SIM for Orange, but your chances of gatting one may be limited.
