Guest michehrlich Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 Is there any difference between a soft reset and powering the device off and then back on? Thanks in advance?
Guest mandt Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 Yes, sometimes ;) Ok let me elaborate, If you simply soft-reset using the stylus method it's a simple restart, and if you haven't changed anything on your phone that's fine. However have you ever received a text read it, then soft-reset shortly afterwards? notice how sometimes when you do this your message will now be marked as unread... It's similar when you make registry changes to your phone, if you simply soft-reset straight after the changes are not applied The reason is to do with changes to the registry not being written to persistent storage straight away, but a power off forces the changes to be made, hopefully somebody will chip in and give you a fuller explanation  Basically whenever you make changes to your phone and you want to make certain they are applied, shut it down with the power key, then turn it back on
