wifi, wpa-psk and hidden ssid

Hi,

I know that the topic has been discussed several times, but I'm not able to find out a solution.

I've, in my office, a wireless connection that works for my laptop.

I'm actually posting here using the wireless connection....

For reasons I don't understand, it doesn't work for my HTC S710.

The ssid is not broadcasted, so even with my laptop I had to manually configure it, and it immediately worked flawlessly.

I did the same on the phone. I inserted the SSID (it contains a dot in the name, should this make any difference), the network type (Internet), the authentication type (WPA-PSK) and the encryption (TKIP), the network key and index (1).

Tried both saying that the network is hidden or not.

The problem I've is that the network now appears in the WIFI page (list of connections) but it seems not reachable (has the red X on top). If I choose to "connect", it does nothing.

Another strange thing I noticed, is that in the last page of the "new WIFI connection wizard" it's automatically checked the IEEE 802.1x control, even if the manually deselect it, the next time I check it is checked again. This is not true on my laptop, where the "authentication tab" in the network properties is grayed out (and not selected, btw).

Just to complete the description, the phone works correctly in my home network (where the SSID is broadcasted and the authentication type is WEP).

Can anyone help here?

Sorry for the length of the post...

Regards,

AleM2k.
