Guest chugsy31 Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Hi I just received my 2nd hand M3100 from Ebay and low and behold... it's faulty (just my luck). None of the buttons on the front section of the phone (call, end call, txt, web browser etc...) appear to work - that is to say... once every now and again when it feels like it. There doesn't seem to be any connection between this and the screen/keyboard being closed properly. The last time I got the dial button to work, none of the other buttons followed suite despite me not moving the screen at all. I have tried to hard reset but it's difficult when the two soft/shortcut keys don't work reliably enough. numerous resets from within the setting menu yielded no changes. has anyone else encountered this problem and is there any way to fix it myself - a refund seems unlikely but I'll try to invoke the mighty powers of Ebay....
Guest Neil5459 Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 When you say a Reset from the Settings Menu, do you mean 'Clear Storage' ? If so, that is the same as a full hard reset. This appears to be a faulty device- open a question with the seller immediately, and if he won't offer to fix it, or refund you, open a dispute with Ebay. You have a right to what you paid for, and unless the seller mentioned any problems, has an obligation to sell you a working device. If you paid using PayPal, you may have a claim using their Buyers Protection scheme, but you must give the seller a chance to respond.
Guest chugsy31 Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 thanks - the seller has agreed to refund my money but i was wondering whether I should still take this through the dispute console so that the matter is on record? back to the phone itself, I noticed this morning that the rate that the front buttons worked improved somewhat... especially after power down the screen and powering back on again. still... I don't think this is acceptable for the 150 quid + p&p i splashed out.
Guest Neil5459 Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 If you get a refund, I'd not go to the dispute console- you can always do that if the refund doesn't materialise. Make sure you get your money before sending it back! Even though it may be imprpving, I'd still reject it.
Guest dmc1980 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 get it sent back and get your money back. from my experience thats the beginning of the end for the phone. Ive been using the m3100 for nearly a year now and im on my 4th one. First those buttons start to go, and then when you activate the phone using the button on the side, instead of coming on the screen just goes white. This will only happen the odd time, but then it will get more and more frequent until the screen never comes back on. Happened to me 3 times now ;)
Guest chugsy31 Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 thanks for the info guys! you're all making me think twice about getting another 2nd hand M3100 if I ever get my cash back though... with regards to that - if you were the seller, would you refund the cash before getting back the merchandise? me neither... as for using the dispute console AFTER I send back the unit - would that even work? at the moment I have to wait 10 days after the transaction before I can use it anyway... frustating to say the least. please share your experiences with returns if you have any. Cheers!

Cheers! Yes- I think I was being a bit braindead there ;) Get the guy's agreement in writing, preferably via an Ebay message, that he will accept the return, then return the phone, and hope he keeps his word. If you don't get the refund, open a dispute with Ebay/Paypal. As a buyer, you can open a Paypal dispute immediately if you wish, then mark it as resolved once the refund is received. I did that last month with an Ebay software download that was supplied with a broken link- Paypal accepted the dispute the same day as the purchase, but luckily the seller resolved it the next day.
Guest chugsy31 Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 hmmm...... can't seem to start a dispute until my 10 days are up - can you post a link to any help pages that indicate otherwise? cheers!
