ActiveSync with Bluetooth - Not Working

Recommended Posts

I've tried every possible solution (including every tutorial listed here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449), but I am simply unable to ActiveSync via bluetooth between my HTC vox and any of my three PCs.

My situation:

  • ActiveSync works just fine via USB
  • Bluetooth works just fine with the phone explorer and sending files to/from PC and Vox
  • Tried Broadcom and Microsoft bluetooth stacks (and a 3rd party stack w/bluetooth dongle)
  • Tried adding serial bluetooth ports hundreds of times
  • Tried removing all bluetooth devices on my Vox and starting fresh several times

But I've never been able to use ActiveSync to sync calendar and contacts via Bluetooth. The problem lies in what "services" are available to the Vox in the connection settings on the phone -- all I get is "hands free" and "serial port"... never "ActiveSync." So, my Vox never "sees" the ActiveSync connection type from my PC for some reason.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is a hard reset. But I really don't want to do that because I've put so much work into tailoring my Vox to-date.

So, before I go the hard reset route as a last ditch attempt to solve this problem, I wanted to throw this out there to see if any of the super-smart people here had any advice that might help!

Thanksin advance,

Jon

had this problem before, too. the problem is that activesync during bt-pairing wont create a port called activesync, but one called serial port. this is what worked for me:

(remember, ur messing with the registry. if you screw your vox, it's yer own fault)

delete bluetooth pairings. go to "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\ActiveSync". There should be a key with a hex string that looks like this "0016cxxxxxx" or similar. delete it. also, delete the value in "LastConnected" plus set the "Initialized" value to "0".

you might need to soft reset (dont quite remember, i'd recommend it tho just to be on the safe side) and re-pair. you will have to re-setup activesync.

Thanks Ombre! One question... my registry doesn't have an 'initialized' entry. If I create this entry in ActiveSync, what kind of entry is it? Binary, text, DWORD?

Thanks,

Jon

I took a guess and set initialized as a binary and set to 0. The good news; ActiveSync service now shows up on my Vox! Thanks!!

The bad news is that I still cannot get ActiveSync to sync up using Bluetooth. I even deleted the device in ActiveSync and then added it again. Still nothing. It does not recognize my Vox, even with BT and discovery set to ON.

Any other suggestions? The laptop does indicate that the ActiveSync service is being "accessed" (I have it set to notify me), so all that part is working. My Serial Port and ActiveSync ports match (port 6) as well.

Any info appreciated. I feel that I'm much closer now, though...

i dont quite understand.. "activesync service is being accessed" --> does activesync connect or doesnt it? does the wheel turn green? is it spinning or standing still? can you access the file browser?

Sorry about that... let me be more specific: My Vox finally shows "ActiveSync" as a service on the list of bluetooth services (this is the first time ever, thanks to your registry suggestions).

However, the wheel on the ActiveSync application on my PC never turns green and actually connects to the phone. So, while the PC has a bluetooth connection, and the Vox now sees ActiveSync service from the PC, the ActiveSync application itself is still not noticing the phone. I do have the right port set (Com Port 6) which matches my bluetooth stack Com port setting of 6.

Hopefully this clarifies the situation. Thanks again for the help.

FYI and FWIW, the advice in this thread WORKED. So, for those who were told that they have to hard reset the Vox to get bluetooth/ActiveSync working, this is no longer true. THANKS MUCH!

Now, onto my next question -- how to automatically launch an ActiveSync connection on a regular basis? I'm stunned that the ActiveSync PC application doesn't provide this service, but since it doesn't, it looks like the Vox will need to take on the responsibility.

I've already created a script that initiates a bluetooth ActiveSync connection from the Vox, but what I'm missing is some kind of tool that will launch this script (.lnk file) every x hours on weekdays. I do own PhoneAlarm SP, but I'm not exactly sure that's the right tool for this situation.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks,

Jon
