Guest Paul Miller Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 (edited) My screen goes black during phone calls, so if I want to do anything during a call (like look up a date in the calendar, get some contact info, or just use the key pad for the voicemail menu, for example) then I first have to press the power button and wait for the phone to wake up again. Highly inconvenient -- is there a way to change this behaviour? Thanks! Edited September 26, 2007 by Paul Miller

Your phone( like ours) suffers from SOD( standby of death) and there is just no medicine for that as of now.Read more about these under Tytn Annoyance

Do you leave your Wifi or data connection running when the phone is in standby? I have narrowed it down to that, when I tried to run without data connections in standby or soft resets the last couple of days after 37 hours instead of a SOD I got "couldn't connect to data connection for unknown reason try a reset" so I was forced to reset anyway! I`m trying again to run without soft resets to see if that error was a one-off and to also see if I get SODs whilst there are no data connections active in standby. Guest Y@nn Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 I have tge phone only since 2 days, but one solution would be to set the standby instead of 1 minute to 5 for exemple or more if you call so long, it could solve the problem, maybe, I will try that...
Guest NuShrike Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Goto post #253 on this thread in howardforums.com. Why are some of you so hard-core SOD trolling? Return it! Anybody interested in an app that wraps all these settings into an exposed interface?

Anybody interested in an app that wraps all these settings into an exposed interface? Has anyone ever tried just pushing the Camera button in half way? you might want to try it since it works! It is also used for turning the softkey lights on. Remember only half way though!
Guest Neil5459 Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 This is normal behaviour for all Pocket PC's and always has been. As a previous poster says, if it annoys you, set the backlight/power timeouts longer, or just press the green phone button to get the screen back again.

As mentioned in the previous link posted by NuShrike If you would like it to never go of during a call then edit this registry key \HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall From "1" to "0" However, the reason they make the screen turn of in the first place is that its a touch screen, so be careful not to press things with your ear. ;) Cheers. Guest NuShrike Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 Goto post #253 on this thread in howardforums.com. Why are some of you so hard-core SOD trolling? Return it!BTW, according to HoFo, this registry hack ALSO bypasses our popular problem of the screen not coming back on after a call when a PIN is set (or due to to Exchange) that required two taps of the power button.
