xml color inheritance

Hello-

I have a T-Mobile Dash running wm6

I think I have a syntax problem. I have tried using red and blue to set colors, but what I get is:

non selected: white background with black text (this is what I want)

selected: gray background with white text (wanted bold black)

The ff0000 and 0000ff are not honored. I think the bgcolor="COLOR_HOMEHIGHLIGHT" is being picked, but I am not sure what is setting the selected text color.
