Guest nerofiend Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Im a bit new to the whole unlocking thing and was hoping for some extra info to help me along. I have the T-Mobile Dash and have had it for about a year or so and decided I was going to be doing some changing and wanted to unlock it. What I am wondering is what all I need to do to get it that way. Here is what I have done so far. 1. App Unlocked it 2. Called T-Mobile and got the Sim2/PUK2 code. 3. Updated to WM6 via T-Mobile Rom update. Now as I understand it I still need to do some things before I can start using it on other networks or update the ROM file to the newer HTC Excalibur ROM. Of course I am also wondering if installing the new ROM is even worth it or if it does anything different compared to what I already have. I guess I need to know if there is anything else that I need to do to get it totally unlocked and what the benefits are in doing so as well as the needed applications or steps in finishing the unlock. I have seen the thousands of websites wanting 30$ or so saying that if you send them the info they can give you the software to unlock it or do it online blah, blah. I would like to be able to do it myself as I am sure if they can do it I can as well without having to pay them for it. Any help would be appreciated with this ;)
Guest genaldar Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 To unlock it you have to put in a non t-mo sim and it will then ask for the code.
Guest dleasman Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 To unlock it you have to put in a non t-mo sim and it will then ask for the code. I disagree... You do not have to do this to unlock. All you need to do is modify a couple registry keys... First get regeditSTG2 on the phone, and then use it to modify the following keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001001 -> Change the value data to 1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001005 -> Change the value data to 40 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001017 -> Change the value data to 144 After that, simply run the SDA Unlock. Then you should be able to do just about anything. If this does not work, and you get messages about sim lock, then use a more thorough approach, outlined in in a different post of mine here: http://www.modaco.com/search.html&nav=...sult_type=posts It's quite easy, and does not even need a sim in the phone to accomplish.
Guest nerofiend Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Well I tried to do as instructed but when using SDA Unlock it keeps telling me (On the PC) that SPV Services "failed to create empty document" and will not let me continue from there. As far as the regestry editing I think that went well enough and I changed the values easily enough but the SDA Unlock seems to be stopping me cold. I also tried to view the post you linked but it seems it does not exsist anymore. Any suggestions?

Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 I hope this works for you http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach...st&id=22074
Guest dynamok Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 I actually use this little application first, then use regeditSTG2 to edit the register to what dleasman has mentioned above. Works like a charm!
Guest Chewy1576 Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 I called T-Mobile and told them that I was leaving the country and wanted to unlock my Dash to use on the out-of-country network. 2 days later they emailed me the SIM unlock code. Very easy!!!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 That does seem a nice way of doing it... that never works in the UK tho! P
Guest clueless1 Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) The attached file is SDA Application Unlock. Are you guys suggesting this can SIM unlock the phone??? Cuz last I heard SPV services would NOT run on the Excalibur. Edited October 18, 2007 by clueless1

Guest genaldar Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 That does seem a nice way of doing it... that never works in the UK tho! P With T-Mo in the US you don't even need to say you're leaving the country. Just call up and say you want to sim unlock your phone. As long as your account is in good standing and it has been for at least 90 days, and its been at least that long since your last code request they'll grant it. They're so much easier to get a code from that AT&T. Of course that hasn't stopped a lawsuit against T-Mo in regards to locked handsets from being allowed.
Guest clueless1 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Without a code from TMobile, can somebody tell me HOW to unlock a Dash?
Guest nolageek Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 Without a code from TMobile, can somebody tell me HOW to unlock a Dash? *sigh* Search. Read the forum. How many times do people need to answer this question? You can't SIM unlock the dash without a Unlock code. You have to either pay the $30 to get the unlock code or call t-mobile and ask for the code. Someone is writing a program to do it, but it's not released yet (if it will be... he was kind of vague.) You can get by on the CID lock by using the program located here when you want to flash the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329605 All you really need are the files Excalibur USPL- CID BYPASS.zip and SDA_ApplicationUnlock.zip. Follow the directions in the readme.txt (or how-to.txt - I'm not sure) in CID BYPASS.zip. If you use the ROGERS ROM, make sure you get the certificates so you can install stuff: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...rs+certificates
