Hi all

Well my contract is due for upgrade in a month so i'm shopping around for a new phone (And possibly a new service provider)

I'm with orange at the moment getting 800 mins for 40 quid a month

currently using the SPV m5000 which suited me well despite it crashing alot. I have tomtom installed on it (yes i know... the bakonl version... shhhhh)

as well as synch alot with outlook to keep me synched with my hectic schedule

and I use the wifi alot when im checking my emails form hotel rooms etc around the globe.

So... the question is... what phone should i get?

Should i go for the latest generation of SPV phones (I don't even know what that is anymore)

A blackberry? (aren't these the macs of smart phones?)

or something else?

i'd be tempted to get a blackberry but can i install tomtom on it? i am so dependant on sat nav now its a joke...

is there anything worth waiting for ?

what do you guys reckon?

thanks in advance ;)

Sounds to me like the HTC Kaiser / Tytn II could be the device for you. In built GPS, and all the features of the M5000, but in a house brick form rather than the breezeblock M5000 lol.

Also it is coming to Orange, check out the Kaiser threads on the forum.

Just my opinion, hopefully others out there will back me up.

Ok i read up on it, sounds promising... i thought that the phone in question was the spv m700?

will it probably be given an SPV tag?

If you go for the HTC Kaiser / Tytn II on Orange you would be better getting the unbranded Tytn II On the Orange SPV version as the Orange theme is hideous but if you can get it as a free upgrade and don't mind living with the Orange Theme then go for it as Orange have left Windows live in the WM 6 Rom, and I'm sure that it will not be long until Paul has created a de brander for the Orange version of the Tytn II like he did for the HTC Vox/Orange SPV E650.

No its not the m700. The 700 doesnt have a keyboard (amongst other things). Orange have started to leave the HTC branding on some devices so they have called it the HTC Tytn 2 which is the name that HTC are also selling it under. And don't listen to all the people slagging off the orange theme - if they can't replace a theme, they shouldn't have a Wm device. There's a homsecreen, different dialler and a couple of orange icons leading to software they have bundled with it.

As Jimbo says- the Orange customisations aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they are easy to get around if you want.

The M700 is a good phone if you want something less chunky than the TyTnII and don't need a hard keyboard. They share a lot of the same hardware, though the TyTn II has a newer chipset and more memory. With the O2 Version of the TyTn II due on 19th November, all 4 major operators will be offering this model, so if it appeals, look for the best coverage, then the best deal. No good having GB's of data if you don't get a signal ;)

If you use a lot of data, then beware that Orange currently only give 30MB per month for £8, but the buzz is that they will be offering better bundles next month.

TomTom does a version for the BlackBerry, and newer BB's have progressed a long way, but they are still very limited compared to a Windows Mobile device. If you're into corporate email in a big way, they may make more sence, but for the private user, the data costs are high.

If you look at the News section there is a review of the Orange Tytn II and Orange have modified most of the Application Icons to low res orange and white icons that look hideous in comparoson to the default WM 6 hi res icon set.

http://www.modaco.com/content/Pocket-PC-Pr...yTN-II-Oh-dear/

I use a sim free HTC S710 that I recived as a Birthdy present because I can use any network that I find is cheap currently on T-Mobile Pay as you go but also have a Vodafone and Orange Pay as you go sim, currently only use the Orang sim for Orange Wednesdays. My first WM phone was the Orange SPV C550 and at the time the only modifications to the phone was the Orange HomeScreen with the Orange Plug-in.

Why do Orange have to cheapen the WM 6 os with low res icons that look like they belong in an early version of theLinux KDE Desktop or Palm OS?

The Orange modifications also use up valubal memory that slows down the phone.

It's probably to do with 'Corporate Image' and familiar interfaces. My Orange Samsung u600 has exactly the same homescreen as the Orange WM devices (as did my M700 before I changed the settings)

If you don't like the customisations, it's been said many times, just remove them. It isn't difficult.

When Paul ports the Orange SPV E650 de brander pack to the Tytn II then it will be easier to remove all the Orange customizations though.

But why on earth did orange have to go with low res icons when they could have created hi res icons in there cooperate colours to at least make it look as though they have put some thought into there customization.
