Guest Alphabum Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) Seriously, Isn't this the new super phone ? I am surprised that there is so little talk on this phone all over this forum, and others too. This HTC is one of the most powerful ones to be released yet.. Sure it's a little ugly, but look at the specs.. 3.5 Inch VGA Screen 3MP Camera GPS Quad Band USA/European 3G TWO SD SLOTS + 1GB memory... With the 8GB SD Cards out right now.. that Gives you 17GB's of memory... iPhone killer anyone ? The only flaw I find is that it doesn't have a keyboard, but I certainly see myself using this phone sometime in the future. Some of the features may be small gimmicks to increase hype such as the fingerprint reader. What do you people think... do you see this replacing your kaiser or touch ? Guest Neil5459 Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 For a lot of people, it's simply too big- same size as the old XDA II, which was good in its day, but we've got used to more compact devices. And it's QVGA, not VGA, as it's intended for the corporate market.
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Indeed. Fantastic for DHL deliveries, but a big fat ugly one for carrying around with you every day ;)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Flash on the camera too IIRC! P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 I wonder why HTC have shyed away from VGA so much? P
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 At a guess: cost. High pixel density like that would be very pricey!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Except on this device it is same as the universal screen size! And if Eten can do it...? I suspect it may be more to do with the gpu power required to drive 4x more pixels? P
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Hmm maybe, thinking about it might just be a "why bother" kinda thing. On a 2.8" screen with cleartype does VGA make that much difference?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 VGA makes a BIG difference, especially if using things like logmein or remote desktop! P
Guest Harmonygirl Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 This is one of the phones I have started to research for myself, is it for sale yet?
Guest Kchrpm Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) I'm also puzzled why HTC is so adamant at using QVGA and processors only up to 400 MHz in their normal lines of Pocket PCs. I'm guessing the reasoning for both is the sacrifice in the battery life vs performance area (which is why they could ignore both of those limitations on the Advantage, it has much more room for its battery, meaning there's enough juice for all those dots and the 624 MHz processor you need to figure out what color to make them). I'm holding out hope that the more power efficient OLED displays coming out will change their mind, specifically something like the 3.08" WVGA one Samsung showed recently, but I doubt the gains are enough. As for processors, I'm hoping all these secondary chips that are coming out really do help, because my PDA runs QVGA wiith 624 MHz and I'm not satisfied with its performance, I can't imagine being stuck with 2/3rds the power. I really don't understand how anyone uses a WinMo smartphone with just 200 MHz either... Edited October 19, 2007 by Kchrpm
