Guest predictable Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 I've used memory map successfully on the XDA orbit but am having some difficulty with files sizes on my V1615. I have used a 55mb cut down map without probs but full size OS maps will not load. Reading around suggests that some other HTC devices have had problems accessing large files such as the 350 mb maps that MM uses. Anyone any ideas on maximum file transfer size from the microsdhc cards?
Guest predictable Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 I get an error message "unable to open file ...".
Guest dave_a Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 I get an error message "unable to open file ...". Hi Predictable, I have also seen this problem but it is not limited to HTC devices. Something to do with either PDAs or the OS timing out when loading large files or something. As for the largest files, I think there are some recomendations on the Memory Map website somewhere but I have found it can vary from device to device. For example, on my M700 I have a number of the 1:50000 files between 300 and 400MB and around 70% of the time they will load but the other 30% of the time I get the same message as yourself. Restarting memory map usually fixes the problem. On my old M500, these same files would probably only load around 25% of the time but the SD card used was slower so this could make a difference. The recommendation is to 'send only visible portion' to PDA from within memory map which it sounds like you have done. This is a real pain as it means that every time you go for a walk, you have to mess around with the software on the PC. You could see if you can obtain a faster card to see if this makes any difference?
Guest predictable Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 hmm bit unfortunate - the sd card works fine with my laptop/pc so I'm convinced its a hardware/os issue.
Guest andysalmon Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 I've recently posted on the memory map site about this- they couldn't help! The max file size with an SD card is 400mb, the max with a MicroSD is 300mb. I've reduced mine below this and everything is hunky dory and running well.
Guest predictable Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 many thanks Andy - bit of work to do with map files then.
Guest fusi Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 ive opened 800mb+ files from my micro sdhc with no problems
