Guest lewis.curley Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Anyone (Paul ;) ) Know the best / simplest way to debrand the Orange HTC TYTN II My plan so far has been : Remove orange home screen Install HTC Homescreen Install HTC Dialpad But a lot of the icons for programs, and the battery indicator on the title bar are 'Orange' Any ideas on a quick way to remove them / set my phone up with orange data settings etc but with standard HTC icons / apps. Thanks
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 I don't have one to see really, but it seems since you're going down the road of installing dodgy HTC stuff anyway, a reflash with the HTC ROM might be easier! Not that I condone that... ;) P

Not that I condone that... :( P Fair point well made, just wondered if there was a 'safer' option! Might just push on for the moment and then once i have it nearly there will no doubt still be unhappy and reflash thus erasing all my work ;)
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Flashing my phone will be the first thing I'll be doing when I get it theres just so far you can go with registry hacks... Just a quick query... I've registered on the HTC site but will I be able to plug my S/N from the orange version of this phone in order to get access to the ROMs ? pps I'm assuming that the old orange ROM can be backed up if I ever want to go back to that monstrous version.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Nope... there are no official ROM downloads. Backing up the Orange ROM isn't straightforward.. P
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Nope... there are no official ROM downloads. Backing up the Orange ROM isn't straightforward.. P Ouch ! Might have to go down the unoffical route and risk bricking it :| Damn Orange to hell, never to come back. Why do these mobile companies cripple devices that we pay for is beyond me ;)
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 (edited) Sorry another question which might be borderline (oops)... If I flash the Orange Tytn II with windows mobile 6 will it work or will I loose some functionality. I'm just wondering if it is worth it or I should stick with the Orange ROM Edited October 16, 2007 by Subliminal Aura
Guest dolbe666 Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Nope... there are no official ROM downloads. Backing up the Orange ROM isn't straightforward.. P theres no "official ROm downloads" but RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship is available if you know where to look. I downloaded it as a backup for my Kaiser for when/if i want to start cooking the rom. that rom is the official rom shipped with the launch kaisers. ill give ya a clue, xda-developers ;)

Guest Subliminal Aura Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 did you find it? if not let me know :) Thanks mate - I know where to look :( I've got quite a few roms but guess what ? ... When I tidied up my office the other day - I quickly shooved cables into PCs and stuck side panels back on them. As a matter of fact it all looks nice and tidy now ;) However my windows machine has been throwing weird disk errors plus the USB doesn't work so forget flashing I can't even use activesync :( Last night I found out that the DVD writter in the machine next to it doesn't work again due to my cabling :D Damn if I'm gonna try sorting lot out tonight... Will try it tomorrow Night night and thanks again for the offer.
Guest spacemonkey101 Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Ive just taken delivery of my Orange branded TyTn and feelin a little low after reading this topic. Am I right that the only way to get my phone to run like it was designed to is to flash it with a new rom?... ;) Also... having trouble gettin the GPS working... and my day started so well...

No mate... Flashing is strictly restricted to nerds and geeks - If you're not one then count yourself lucky :( Its a good phone all you'll need to do is keep a tab on what programs you are running and not to hog the memory... Just get rid of resource killers like the blasted orange menu from the today screen. ps Anyone know if post flashing the phone becomes 'unlocked' :D ? Or will I still have IEMI issues ?

Guest Subliminal Aura Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Actually all this is a pain in the butt... I had to CID unlock the Tytn II and am now flashing the rom proper as I write... Goodbye Orange its been a short n bitter experience.

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 USPL from XDA-Devs I assume! P
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Yup... I left it in the office I think it was the POF one (along with whatever allegations are floating around against him). Anyway all worked great : The generic HTC rom(RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship) is AWWWWWWWWWESOME... nice n fast. Trouble is that the phone is still SIM locked so that's my next task :| Any cookies threw them this way... I'm a little cheesed off I haven't touched the Kaiser for a couple of hours now.
Guest Very big Dave Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Ok, How to "hack" the orange version of the TYTN II - this isn't a hack at all, its just setting your display preferences !! Start, Settings, Today Goto items tab desect orange, select HTCHomeplug.. Select or deselect others items to your hearts content, Goto appearence, select one of the windows default themes.. you can download other themes from the net for free. Ta-da.. its a WM6 device (if slightly crippled by orange) - On the subject of flashing WM devices. Its not just for geeks. If you check out XDA developers you will find out how to flash your device, how to unlock it and how to personalise to your hearts content. HOWEVER!! there is a chance that you could permanently brick your device and odds are you WILL loose some functionality. I have unlocked and flashed both my M2000 and my M3100. Both now run WM6 perfectly. The performance and stability improvement more than make up for the loss of function - I no longer get messages as to voice mail (orange send a weird text message that orange flashed devices then respond with the voice mail icon). I presume there is a registry hack to fix this, but I really cannot be fussed finding it. Hint if you have a WM2003 or WM5 device and want it to work properly try the WM6 flash. If you are just stuck with an operator specific WM6 device stick with it until the operator gives you a better rom, or until you are due or can afford an upgrade. As for the built in GPS, its pretty good. If you are trying TomTom 6 select the GPS as "other bluetooth GPS" and selct COM 4. It takes 20 - 30 seconds to get a lock and sort itself out, but after that its a breeze. Finally, for sad sods (like me) who have heated car windscreens (mondeo) the wire mesh is a damn fine farriday cage. You will looks 50-60% of your GPS signal with your device inside the car and the doors shut. Solutions to this.. 1. HOLUX do a GPS repeater. a small square ariel that can be fitted to the parcel shelf and wires through to a power supply and repeater. All of a sudden you get really good GPS in car! (my current solution) 2. The GPS back panel plug of the TYTN II is removable. You can plug an external arial in. ( I guess there is an expensive in car kit somewhere). With the panel removed you have two ariel sockets. One for mobile one for GPS.
Guest ed.dark Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Files to go in /windows folder to make dialler bars blue - I hate orange! drop the contents of the phone dialler blue folder into /windows using resco or the like.Phone_dialler_blue.zip
Guest tinyk Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Thats the only thing i really hated about the orange branded Tytn II the damn phone dialer, everything else i have pretty much done away with, just wish i could have got rid of the dialer to. Nice effort ed.dark, that will certainly do till i can find a black one, shame the old SPV M3100 dialers dont work with it.
Guest rugbyleaguefan Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 TinyK, There is a nice black dialer on xda-developers called retouched dialer2, which the guys who are using the at&t tilt have been using, just do a search for dialer under the main kaiser folder. I currently have this on my orange kaiser. Andy
Guest Justinrog Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 I have read that flashing the generic HTC ROM on the Orange device can leave it unable to accept an Orange SIM. That it displays a Sim Lock screen. I thought that the flash would not change the Sim Lock status of the device? This would leave the device unusable without completely unlocking it...wouldn't it? Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Andy Thanks for that m8 i had just popped back on to say i had found another dialer to replace the orange one, it certainly takes away the glare of that orange original one. @justinrog, you are correct from what i have read they are simlocked and even the orange network is not accesable without a full unlock. To be fair though having removed nearly every trace or Orange from the phone and with the additional cabs and software i have installed, its just about perfect. Now if only they could get round the hardware restrictions that stop you recording your calls now that would be perfection. ;)
Guest Justinrog Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Am I right in thinking that I will either have to debrand manually, wait for an unlocking solution/buy a code or wait for a sim-unlocked HTC rom (or one that does not lock your handset to your original network)? Thanks, J
