Guest tsutton Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 (edited) On Vario I, I have two different page - one for SMS and another one for MMS which means creating a new one is easier. Now with this Vario III, both of them are merged together, which means if I want to create a new message I have to do more clicks to get there. (new -> sms or new -> mms) Is there a registry hack that can split them up? Also, on Vario I, when I press the button on the top, left corner, it brings up the message service. Press the button again and it go through each like email, mms, sms, outlook, etc With Vario III, it just brings up the listing of available services. Is it possible to get it to the old way like Vario or is it a new feature of WM6? Thanks all Edited October 17, 2007 by tsutton

Then go to Menu -> Tools -> Options. You should see "Display account picker whe opening Messaging" - uncheck it. Then you have the old ways back! Still looking for a way round to my 1st question above...
Guest jimbouk Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Its a WM6 thing... although there are cooked roms that have seperated them again
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 I'll look into how they're seperated, watch this space. And for switching between accounts? I have the picker OFF (it's annoying!) and then use left / right on the directional pad to switch accounts! P
Guest lozzd Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 To make it slightly quicker, you can untick the box in options that says "Show the account picker" at the beginning. Apart from that there is no way to split them up unfortunately, this annoys me too ;)
Guest xeno1 Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 So far, the only way anyone at XDA-Devs been able to find a way to separate the 2 is to cook a version in to a ROM that is already seperated and we tried for quite a while to figure out some other way. In Arcsofts newest version the 2 are separated back out again, probably by popular demand since everyone seems to have a problem with it, but unfortunately just installing it by cab doesn't fix it.
Guest mandt Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 I like them together, guess its just me though ;)
Guest tsutton Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) I like them together, guess its just me though ;) I don't mind about it, it's just that on my Vario I, I was able to click New and I get the new message body. But with WM6, there is no "New" option, it got replaced with "Delete" - I have to go to Menu -> New -> SMS to create a new message body. What used to be one click is now 3 clicks. See what I mean? Guest mandt Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Oh yes!! Delete is my pet hate of WM6 ;) I set the right softkey to new SMS, makes life a little easier. MMS's I always send via the context menu But whoever thought Delete would be a good idea needs shooting

I used the method described in this thread so that I can do it in one button press. Make a text document on your PC, and put the following inside: New, blank message: 99#\Windows\tmail.exe -service "SMS" -to "" -body "" Save it as NewSMS.lnk, and then copy it to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs on your phone. You can then assign it to one of your programmable buttons (I set mine to the messaging button). Voila, one click for a new SMS. Thanks go to xeno1 and lozzd for this! ;)
Guest lozzd Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Yeah that's the most annoying bit, the fact you can just hit the left softkey anymore. I mean SERIOUSLY. I want to meet the person who decided that and slap them. But I suppose I better hear why they did it first, they may have a good reason ;)
Guest mandt Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Now Forwarding a message, that is a PITA!! menu...reply...forward. what idiot thought that made sense

Almost a brill fix. But 1 problem... If you go into your text messages (2nd icon on the home screen) then go into check your emails (1st Icon) you are sent to your txt messages as default. You then have to click across to your emails. You then go back out. Check your text messages at a later time. Then want to check your email. Click on the email icon - and youre back into Text messages!
Guest xeno1 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) I just tried this method. Almost a brill fix. But 1 problem... If you go into your text messages (2nd icon on the home screen) then go into check your emails (1st Icon) you are sent to your txt messages as default. That's because the link that FFM posted doesn't work the way it is intended when you use it with HTC Home. When you use that link in claunch it opens up a new text msg instead of sending you to your inbox. When you disable the account picker it automatically sends you to the last inbox you had open. So, when you click on the email icon it's just sending you back to the SMS/MMS inbox because that was the last inbox you had open it was designed to just go to the account picker. Does that make any sense? Anyway, basically the only way to fix it not to do that is to turn the account picker back on. Edited October 19, 2007 by xeno1
Guest sc0user_75 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 LOL! Xeno, after a lot of faffing about I finally decided to turn the picker back on. Ive read elsewhere that so many others a peed off about this too!
Guest hotphil Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Some good fixes. But is there any way to make the default when within the SMS\MMS inbox under Menu>New to be SMS rather than MMS? I think I've only ever sent 3 MMS in my life, but regularly send SMS. I can handle Menu>New, but why did they think that the default/top item should be MMS rather than SMS?
Guest mandt Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I guess it's just alphabetical Personally I've installed HTC Action screen (Google it) to my right softkey, no more faffing around ;)

Guest mandt Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Yeah it's great ;) Top tip: You can edit 'HTCActionScreen.exe.0409.mui' (in \Windows) with Resource hacker to get rid of the 'dial a number or select task below' text :(

Guest mandt Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 (edited) With the Vario III you don't even need to do any of this as you can select 'New SMS' or New MMS' out of the box with the softkey applet Edited November 13, 2007 by mandt

Guest mandt Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I mean with the VIII you don't need to fart around with notepad and so on to make a 'New SMS.lnk file, it's already an option in the softkey applet
Guest lozzd Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I've not seen a softkey applet. Do you mean on Settings -> buttons?
