If your phone has never been updated, it will have the original ROM on it. As a rule, T-Mobile only rarely release updates, and even then few general users apply. Once we know which exacy version you have we can guide you. Connecting a Pocket PC to a Windows XP PC will always give an error if ActiveSync has not already been installed, and installing A/S afterwards doesn't always fix it without going into the device manager and deleting the setting for the USB port. Always install A/S first, then connect the PPC (too late for you now, but as you use Vista it will be OK!). ActiveSync itself contains the PPC device drivers which it loads once a device is detected. Vista doesn't use A/S- it uses a new sync application called Windows Mobile Device Centre. You need to visit the MS site and download it. Once downloaded and run, it should pick up the MDA when you connect it, but it can sometimes be flakey. If it still won't pick it up, you'll need to come back here for advice!
Guest Neil5459 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 OK- the HTC Wizard is still a nice device, but getting old in PPC terms! It was the MDA Vario in T-Mobile guise. There are a lot of newer ROM's availble for it, but beware that updating the ROM is not a simple process for the beginner. I'll have a look later and see if there are any 'native' T-Mob ROM's that may be easier to install. Updating the ROM does delete all user settings and data from the phone, so you would be doing a clean start.

The XDA Developers website has a WiKi page for the Wizard models, containing all you need to know. You MUST read it in detail before proceding with any update.
