Guest jonlad Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 So what's the best way to have a video chat and see baby wave and say dada ? Obviously the best way will be free of any cost and pretty simple from the PC end for the wife/baby interface ! Please tell me how you would do it, which software, etc ?
Guest jonlad Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Skype I guess! Easy to install ;) According to Skype... Version: 2.2.0.36 Release date: June 11, 2007 for WinMob devices doesnt support video calls. Have you or anyone else information that indicates otherwise ? jonlad
Guest internetadam4657 Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 i have also not found where skype supports video calls on windows mobile. people keep talking about it but i have yet to find a download for it. not like its going to be very useful on my tilt though considering the lack of a front camera. oh well, i'll take the $200 price tag over the camera though ;)
Guest lozzd Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Oh, sorry, for some strange reason I thought you had a laptop with you ;) sorry!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Sad fact is, this isn't possible atm ;) P
Guest rickyburke Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Try this, it used to work on my M5000. http://research.microsoft.com/mcom/portrait/
Guest jimbouk Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Read this first post a couple of hours ago and was just sat in the car thinking I know there's something that does it... and then it came to me - so was just about to post the link to Portrait! But RB beat me to it.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Ah yus! Mighty try that on my Kaiser! P
Guest unclesomebody Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 looks very interesting. Perhaps someone can report back if it works on the kaiser. Luckily I have an HTC version so it has a forward facing camera (thus negating a complex system of mirrors). The only drawback is that it requires everyone having portrait installed. An integration into msn messenger would have been better...
Guest jimbouk Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 (edited) Installing it now..... The latest beta integrates with .net messenger service. Edited October 25, 2007 by jimbouk
Guest Phil Lee Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Installing it now..... The latest beta integrates with .net messenger service. Does that mean someone using Messenger can see a video feed from Portrait? As I read it, Portrait send a message to a Messenger user tellin gthem where to download the Portrait viewer.

As I read it, Portrait send a message to a Messenger user tellin gthem where to download the Portrait viewer. According to the link, that's exactly what happens. If they don't have portrait installed, they'll be presented with a link so they can install it. Being able to talk directly to Messenger's own video capabilities would have been better. Guest jonlad Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Try this, it used to work on my M5000. http://research.microsoft.com/mcom/portrait/ Ok, I had a play with this tonight just on my home network, the options on the vario didn't allow me to pick the front camera for transmission although there was a drop down menu, the only option was CAM1 which is the main camera. The video image sent back to the pc though was very good quality, but I was really hoping not to have to carry a compact mirror whilst making the call. ;) The reception on the vario from the pc's webcam was poor, the preview video on the pc's monitor was perfect but the video received on the vario appeared to have been split into RGB and not combined back correctly, I tried various settings from the PC client but could not perfect it to any useable quality. So at the moment I think this app could have its uses as a mobile live webcam but it isn't going to do what I was looking for....yet. ...jim bouk How did you get on ?
Guest Phil John Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 (edited) What about ORB? That has the ability to stream your webcam from your home PC last time I checked. http://www.orb.com EDIT: sorry, realised you want 2 way, whoops! Edited October 26, 2007 by Phil John
Guest Davebravey Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Here's another way too do it if you have "LogMeIn" software or something similar. Is too log onto your PC at home and start up the camera/scanner wizard so you get the live video on your screen. Only problem tho is no sound.
