Guest spencerman Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 My phone got stolen yesterday, i have some confidential inside the phone, does anyone know if i can erase the data inside the phone?
Guest Neil5459 Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 No way retrospectively ;) There are programs you can install to assist security and acheive remote wiping, but unless thye are installed before the loss/theft it won't help you. You can also alert the mobile phone company to the theft- they can block the IMEI number from connecting to any UK network, but it won't prevent access to the PDA functions.
Guest jimbouk Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 UNless its a WM5 phone with a coproate exchnage server account and it is set up for remote wiping - in which case, let your IT department know.
Guest Neil5459 Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Jimbo- does remote wiping clear teh whole device, or just the Exchange stuff? Noticed the option in OWA but didn't feel like testing it ;)
Guest jimbouk Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I think it is just exchange stuff and thus contacts/calendar/tasks/email. But I would have thought that most "sensitive stuff" will be in emails and/or attachments? Haven't set it up myself though.
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Remote Wipe does a Hard Reset, so it removes everything from the device (but doesn't touch the memory card)
Guest hamsterpowered83 Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Actually, I was able to find these that can help “remotely” erase your phone info. It’s worth a look. Seems like an alternative to owning a server, too much $$. Good Luck. www.mobilesky.com – remote erase for free www.spritesoftware.com – backup
