Hi all, I have recently moved house and unfortunatly I dont have access to the internet anymore... so I was thinking of getting some kind of SPV orange phone and using my sim card to get 3G internet speeds plugging it into my pc via USB (Active SYNC).

This is all good becuase I get free internet with orange but Im just unsure what handset to get, do orange handsets varey the 3G internet speeds? i.e the more you spend on your orange 3G handset the faster the 3G will be? I doubt thats the case so if anyone can recomend the cheapest orange phone which has 3G internet that would be great. Thanks in advance to anyone who replys to this, byee

Do you mean free data for your mobile or the free internet that you get with a contract with Orange?

If you mean the free internet with your Orange contract, that relates purely to internet via a phoneline and not via your mobile - if you used your mobile with Oranges data plans as a modem for your PC then you would need to remortgage your home to pay for it!!!

If you mean Orange give you free unlimited data for your phone, go for it!!! But please tell us all how you got it ;)

If the OP is confusing O's free internet (over adsl) with mobile data... then no wonder networks get complaints.

If however he does mean free mobile data , then he should get a Tytn 2 and really enjoy 3g.

Well I was more wanting to know about devices, I.E what is the cheapest phone on the orange network with 3G enabled.

I have an orange PAYG which is 1 pound for unilimited internet for 24hours with orange, this i find a good way of getting online without signing up to an isp. Im just not sure which phone to get, Ive had spv`s before but wonderd whats the cheapest phone wich has 3G, as I wont be using the phone as a phone just as a modem for 3G on my orange PAYG sim, any ideas? thanks!

at £1 a day... its gonna be quite expensive...

Any 3g device with WM6 will do - but on PAYG you won't get any cheap (or indeed any WM6) devices

Well yeah I have come to terms with the cost already (1 pound a day) this is fine as I dont want to be tied down to anything plus I dont use it everyday, sometimes just maybe 2 days of the whole week!

But yes can I not buy any of these WM6 devices offline maybe on ebay? Its my birthday you see so I was going to splash out a bit... what exacly is WM6? and whats the difference between a bog standard 3G device and a WM6 device? thanks alot for your info so far its great

Sorry Just googled it and relise its just windows operating system 6, does this affect the internet speeds or something? Im just looking for a device to sit connected to my pc you see, any will do but I want the best internet speeds with orange possible... I was under the impression all 3g devices are the same speeds and 3G is the fastest you can get for mobile internet! am i right in saying that?> thanks

As you have realised on your other thread (better to keep it on one btw), that HSDPA is the fastest but it depends where you are. O only offer HSDPA in the major cities so far, but have good 3g over most other cities and towns. T have ok coverage throught the main population areas (but with some noticeable gaps) but they offer HSDPA wherever they have 3g.

You can buy WM devices unlocked from HTC and other manufacturers from expansys and other online and high street retailers. They will cost £400 plus for a latest model device.

Or you can sign up for a contract at £25 per month and get the same handset for £50 ish...

Data wise, T offer wnw for about £8 for basic, or slightly more for their pro plan which includes laptop use.

You are probably better off though keeping your phone and buying an HSDPA USB modem for your laptop and putting a PAYG sim in it and paying the £1 when you want to use it.

Have you looked at Three's offerings?

They do a 'Business Broadband' tariff which includes a PC 3G/HSDPA modem from £10 per month (1GB) .

Hull is showing as within the new 'Turbo 3G' (HSDPA) region.

Well that sounds pretty cool except 1GB would probably last at the most last me 4 minutes at the rate I abuse the internet!

Thanks anyway.... if there was any unlimited download contracts out there id probably consider, I think I might have seen one but it was over 25 a month... and for this I could just get a proper 8MB line from my local ISP and pay phone line rental, but I was ideally intrested in orange PAYG as its just a quid a day if and when I use it, ;)

Check out orange broadband max.

If you are a contract client, then they give you up to 8mb adsl, unlimited evening and weekend calls, free line2 calls, inclusive calls to 30 countries and all for £15 per month - and no BT line rental!

The same package from BT would cost £30 plus per month.
