Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Skype and 3 UK today announced their Skypephone, a phone dedicated to, er, Skype usage ;) What's interesting though, is it seems that Skype usage on 3 is FREE for everyone, Skypephone or not, so long as you are either on a contract, or top up once a month. I have the unlimited internet package on my 3 SIM so I can't really tell, but here's the screenshot from my 'my3' control panel... Can anyone else without the unlimited package give it a try and let us know how you go? :( If it IS the case, very cool indeed! P
Guest Sprint Media Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 very cool, pay as you go £49.99 for a bluetooth phone with free msn messenger for extra £5 a month from ur credit unlimited web access and of course free skype calls service works very well im impressed
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 So the 3 skypephone has messenger? ;) P
Guest Flubster Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Its not in my 3 control panel, just my txt topup pack and my normal balance Reckon you'll need a internet topup to get this Flubster
Guest Flubster Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 ok, i've just bought a £10 topup (I needed to) and skype is now listed and i've no internet bundle. awesome Flubster
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Now install and use skype and check your credit doesn't go down ;) P
Guest Flubster Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 it doesn't, so its free. Nice. Flubster
Guest Sprint Media Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 yup msn messenger or windows live messenger is completely free its great i stay logged on all day and its perfect. no lag either skype also works for free in most of europe used it in spain, italy, amsterdam cus they have sister networks out there it remains free! yay!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Messenger too? Even better ;) P
Guest Domanic Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I think messenger is only free to pay as you go until the end of the year, but then again, when I get my kaiser with 3, I'll be taking advantage of the 30 days of internet for £5.
Guest TomaHawk Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 thats awsome its free in other countries aswell 3 is really upping there game.
Guest Monolithix Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 MSN has been free on 3 for months! Unfortunately due to their MSN charging scheme (my guess at least) WLM doesn't work ;) Not checked for a month or two but they didnt have a compatible version when i last tried!
Guest scott2eyes Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Interestingly, the Skype calls don't actually use VOIP on the 3G network- they're made as normal voice calls over the air, then converted to Skype calls in 3G's core network. (The reason being that voice calls use about 10kbps, while VOIP uses 64-256kbps.)
Guest pd.ryder Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I probably shouldn't point this out so *shhhhhh*.... but I've got Skype on my Vario II and it works fine and for free over T's WnW basic ;) :(
Guest Mr.Clark Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 Free Skype to Skype calls? Wow. Just like... normal Skype then? Apart from the fact that they let you use it on their data (which apparently they don't anyway, if it's done over voice) then I'm not seeing what's so great about this... I probably shouldn't point this out so *shhhhhh*.... but I've got Skype on my Vario II and it works fine and for free over T's WnW basic ;) :(Mine doesn't, I've tried.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 Being able to call skype contacts for free while mobile is good no? ;) You say that it's nothing special, then say in your next sentence that you can't do the same on T-Mo! I think for nothing, it's pretty cool! P
