Guest petec500 Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Hi, I have one of the original O2 xdas, running MS Pocket PC Version 3.0.12039 Build 11178 with a PAYG O2 sim card. It tends to live in my office desk drawer as I dont really have a use for it these days (currently use a Qtek 8310 for all my smart-phone needs). It has no wifi, bluetooth or anything useful like that, though i still have the docking cradle which works. I was just wondering though if there are any useful upgrades to this phone available, or any useful software around that would justify bringing it out of retirement. I hate to see technology put to waste - even if it's very old tech'! Suggestions please.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 That IS old skool. I think that may have had 2003 Second Edition, beyond that, i'm not sure! P
Guest jimbouk Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Sell it on ebay as an antique? Use it as a remote control for your tv? Seriously though, the problem is the OS has no perpetual memory, so you have to keep it charged and in use or it resets.
Guest petec500 Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Jeepers - didn't expect responses that quickly! I guess you guys are on lunch like me! It is a bit of an antique now i suppose, though i still remember how excited i was when i first got it. I understand the problem about it resetting when the battery runs out - it's happened many times to me, hence why i dug the cradle out to keep it charged up at least once a week. I was using it just as an "at-a-glace" list of my day's appointments/meetings, plus a photo/video viewer. I cant bring myself to part with it, so perhaps i'll carry on. By the way, i'm about to plump for it's spiritual successor (many times over!) - HTC Touch from Orange as they have it on a good deal currently - £35/month contract with £120 credit over 12 month contract = £25/month, further reduced by 10% if i keep my current number, which brings it down to £21.50 - and the phone is free! So that's less than £260 over the year - cheaper than i could buy the phone!

Guest petec500 Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 *waits for the T wnw evangelistic O data knockers... Huh? Forgive me as i'm not a frequenter of these forums, but trying to decipher the above, are you suggesting that T-mobile have a better data service (wnw = web'n'walk?) than Orange?
