Guest radxxx1 Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 (edited) Hi.. Got a question. Im going outta town for a week or so, to an area were ther is no WIFI. Is it possible to connect my HTC710 to my lappy, and use GPRS connection? Lappy runs on Vista home premium. Ty for your answer:) Ron Edited November 1, 2007 by radxxx1
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Er, dunno I use XP SP2 and found that the Internet Sharing Bluetooth PAN option kept disconnecting for no obvious reason - so in theory it might work, but for me, in practice, it was useless and I ended up on the (expensive) hotel WiFi It might be different for you, but I was cursing my decision not to buy a 3G modem

My Laptop uses a Toshiba BT stack, so don't know if that makes a difference or not. Best thing to try is cable connection and go onto phone> start > tools > internet sharing, select USB. and go from there To be fair depending upon your contract, wifi might be cheaper. If I need to download alot of data I would go for wifi, even at hotel prices
Guest radxxx1 Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 (edited) Thanks, ill give it a try. It would only be used for chat and e-mail, so the amount of data sent will be limited. Fortunatly my plan gives me unlimited access (with fair user policy) Ron ]EDIT[ Well that was quick, worked like a charm ;) Edited November 2, 2007 by radxxx1
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Beware that if you're data is unlimited then you're probably on T-Mobile (if you're in the UK), in which case only some of their data bundles allow modem use. I haven't heard of anyone getting caught out, but there was talk a while back about some services being blocked

Guest swapnilgyani Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Internet sharing with the USB cable (using Windows XP) works quickly and flawlessly everytime for me!! Agree wid samsonite tho...
