Guest jimbouk Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Surely it has Internet Connection SHaring?
Guest hives Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 ah your right, just found that setting.... I havent managed to sort active sync out yet for this.... what do I need to do to get the internet sharing to work (for my computer to use the phones internet) Anything I need to install or do? I have the usb cable for the phone... By the way jimbouk... your a life saver, i was just about to throw this phone out of the window before you said about the internet sharing... now it seems i might be able to use the phones internet after all... any info on how to do it would be great thnx again!
Guest spacerace Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 You need to install AS 4.5 (I removed mine after install and Internet Sharing still works fine as the necessary drivers remain). Then connect the phone via USB, go to Internet Sharing, select USB, and press Connect. Your Windows machine will briefly show the new connection icon in the system tray, with the flashing 'ball' while it requests an IP address, then will probably disappear. Done, you have connection via your I600!
Guest hives Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 ahh ok i see, well my windows will not allow this version of sync becuase its soo told even though its XP (copied version) hmm what can i do other than try and get the right version of windows! ty guys
Guest spacerace Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 XP should be fine. It maybe that AS 4.5 requires Service Pack 2 (SP2) to be installed? Do you have this? If not then you will need to upgrade.
Guest jimbouk Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 What happens when you turn on ICS, click connect (via USB) and then plug in the device via USB to your pc? If your pc has BT, then its easy to connect ICS via a BT PAN to your device.
Guest hives Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 Hi, I dont have BT so im not sure on that one, also I cant have active sync 4.5 becuase I dont have SP2, is there a way of getting around this? would it work with an older version of active sync? thanks alot

Guest hives Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 (edited) Like I said, what happens if you press connect in ICS and then plug the USB cable into your pc? ICS ? ahh internet connection settings... well im 49% of getting sp2 now so ill wait till 100% and ill try it and give you an update, cheers for your help guys Edited November 4, 2007 by hives
Guest spacerace Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 even though I bought my windows from a bierded guy at the market for 3 pounds? ;) you *should* be ok After an outcry from security consultants who feared that denying security updates to illegal installations of Windows XP would have wide-ranging consequences even for legal owners, Microsoft elected to disable the new key verification engine. Service Pack 2 only checks for the same small list of commonly used keys as Service Pack 1. from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP
Guest jimbouk Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 I meant to say SP2 doenst require verification like the latest downloads (like defender etc)
Guest hives Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 hi, i managed to download sp2 and install it also i have got activesync installed which is great, i have also manged to get the internet sharing going on my pc but its quite slow, i did a test diownload and was downloading at 5kb a sec which is quite poor at the moment i have a G symbol which is obviously means connected with 3G but i wonderd if i could get it any faster as my phone has hspda, also i saw someone selling orange sim cards on ebay claiming they are for the new hspda internet speeds sims which are normally sold at 20 quid at car phone warehouse, not sure if these sims are any different from my standard orange payg sim? tx
