How to get the screen off while using GPS

I am a cyclist and sometime I would like to use the GPS for navigation, so voice navigation will be sufficient for me for most time.

Switching the screen off will also disable the GPS chips whilst I am using tom tom, and leaving the screen on while it is sitting in my pocket is kind of wasting battery.

I wonder if anyone has a way to switch off the screen while leaving the GPS on?

I use S2U2 assigned to a hardware button. A double click of the ok button (using ae button plus) starts s2u2 which then locks the device and turns off the screen.

forgot to say, both apps are free. ae button remains completely useable after the trial period, the only thing that happens is that a box pops up every now and then. Saying that, its a great app and doesnt cost much.
