Guest hives Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 Hi i have seen this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ORANGE-HSDPA-3G-3G-B...1QQcmdZViewItem they claim its a new 3G broadband sim, is this actually any different from a standard payg sim? thanks
Guest jimbouk Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 Your links not working... With Orange a SIM is either a "sim" and only gsm or its a "USIM" and then its 3g. The HSDPA bit is device dependant - not sim dependant. As PAYG sim's are free (or £1 sometimes from the networks) I don't see why you would buy one from ebay?
Guest hives Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 (edited) oups try this link, and to answer your question,, i was also under the impression your sim would make no difference but then i read this auction which made me think different ok i cant leave the link here for some reason but bassicly go to ebay.co.uk and search ORANGE HSDPA 3G+ 3G BROADBAND 3.5G DATA SIM CARD NEW and youll see what i mean, read the auction and read what they are claiming. Having done a search and read the listing let me give my view... There is NOTHING really too special about this. What appears to be being offered for sale, is a normal Orange PAYG SIM Pack. The claim of it being 3G / 3.5G / HSDAP is NOTHING special, in that all this means is that it is a modern USIM, so capable of 3G connectivity at whatever speed the network cares to offer it, and the device it gets used in, can handle. In other words, it's just pointing out that it is a USIM, not an old style SIM. In terms of the cost, and the "why buy one" question, well all I can say here is that officially, a PAYG SIM card from Orange, does indeed actually usually cost a little bit money as part of a pack that also includes an element of credit, hence making these ebay offers worth a look sometimes, in order to save a bit. BUT... Orange regularly have offers on where they offer FREE or £1 PAYG SIM cards (without any credit included), from time to time, thus making these ebay offers not worth it, when such proper offers are on with Orange. Hope that helps a bit, and feel free to post back with anything else.

Hi well... bassicly I have a fairly old sim but when i use my phones internet it has the 3G icon with the signal strentgh, i thought it was supposed to display a U.... does this mean my sim is the older one and not the newer USIM? Thanks alot by the way for your info
Guest Monolithix Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Nope if you have a 3G icon, it means you're connected via 3G ;), so it looks like you're sorted. Note thought, by the way, that O stock both 2G and 3G PAYG SIM/USIM cards, so if anyone is intending on grabbing one then make sure you're specific about which you want (the 3G ones have a big "3G" slapped on the front of the booklet :()
Guest hives Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 well i bought the samsung i600 on orange for its supposidly fast internet speeds HSDPA? but yes bassicly it downloads at just over 6kb a sec if im lucky which is a slight bit faster than dialup.... I thought that was 3G/3.5G internet speeds with HSDPA but its about the same speed as GPRS when i used to use it on my spv c500! sucks! ty anyway
Guest Monolithix Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 If you have HSDPA it'll have a little "H" at the top. Note that O's HSDPA coverage is pretty crappy though, confined to a few cities. 6kB/s sounds pretty bad though for 3G, possible its due to bad signal coverage?
Guest hives Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 well it must be bad signal but i live in hull which is a fairly big city, its nit out in the sticks or anything so you would think the signal would be ok. id consider getting a contract but other than orange i dont know any networks which do unlimited downloads because being capped for me is pointless i download alot, if i could find a contract with unlimited downloading id do that but even then whats to say they cover my city with hspda hmmmm tx
Guest wakei456 Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 If the signal is ok, maybe other problems
Guest Monolithix Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Well if you want unlimited downloads (fair use etc) you'd need to go for a 3 or Tmob contract. Both do unlimited browsing on PAYG too...
Guest jimbouk Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 You definitely wont get H in Hull from Orange. Not for a year or two anyway.
Guest hives Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 im pretty sure therr isnt a payg or contract out there with unliimiited downloads becaise they all have some kind of limit even if it 4gb id still use it snd wats fair usage mean txc
Guest jimbouk Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 If you really would use 4gb, then you should sign up for a home broadband deal... it will be a lot faster and less hassle.
