Hi all

I've been holding out on upgrading my M5000 in the hope that orange may actually offer somthing that is actually better than the M5000, Such as the Advantage. But sure enough nothing has apeared on their list.

The last week my Universal has been a right pain in the ar$e!! For some reason the calculator stopped working (nothing happens when you touch the icon). The device crashes randomly when i use the following apps: WMP, Internet explorer, tomtom navigator 5, camera also during phone calls. I'm not sure what is doing it, firstly i thought it may be a bug in the VGA patch i'm using (found on XDA-Developers) as these isues only seemed to happen in VGA mode. but now it happens all the time, so i suspect maybe the battery is on its way out. strange thing is the battery status always seems good. the device also doesnt like boting up again after one of these crashes, and normaly crashes again part way through the boot, the only way's i've found to make it play fair is to either plug in to charger or remove battery for 10 mins and try again. Today it even started crashing whilst checking my email which is the last straw.

So Its definately upgrade time, i've had enough!

I called orange to see what they have avaliable. the girl i spoke to mentioned the TyTn11, Touch P3450 & SPV E650. i prefer the PDA phones over the smartphones so probably wont go for the E650, i've also heard a little about the Touch Dual and am tempted to wait for that, its lack of wifi puts me off a little but i guess i could live without it.

Anything i should know about these devices?

Do any of them have VGA displays? i really like the image quality of the VGA screen on the M5000.

Which one would you go for?

No VGA device on Orange.

The Tytn2 is the best qvga device for you - in terms of hi speed data etc.

So I would get one of them free from O, then flog it on ebay and use the cash towards getting yourself an amea/athena/advantage.

I guess I'm the only person that can actually type faster with T9 than on tiny QWERTY keyboards...

I always forget where all the buttons are ;)

I definitely think you should've went for the TyTN II. I know you'll miss the M5000 VGA (I have one too), but I'm sure you won't miss having a brick in your pocket. The TyTN's reasonably sized.

Alternatively, you could try to fix the M5000 if they let you keep it. I assume that you've tried doing a hard reset ? Don't forget to backup sync first. I've gradually realised that all the problems I've had with mine (apart from size) have been due to Orange, not HTC or M$. This is due to their crap customisation, locking the o/s for installing software, registry changes, etc., poor performance, bluetooth problems, etc.

I had an M5000 and then an XDA Exec, now I have gone for the Ameo.

I'd go with the option of getting another new phone on your upgrade, selling it and getting the Advantage, or just change networks to T-Mobile and go for the Ameo. Your already used to carrying a brick in your pocket! ;)

Curently, none of them - all the current HTC models have some flaws I've listed in some other threads:

TyTN II (Kaiser): too heavy for a plain slider QVGA device; sub-par video speed; no 3D acceleration; no stereo speakers; no call recording / answering machine; not very good camera; no FM

x7500 (Advantage): brick; outdated platform (XScale PXA-270); pretty lousy keyboard; HDD instead of flash (it, however, supports call recording / answering machine); has a much smaller userbase than the Kaiser; pretty much useless for gaming

What I'm waiting for is somethink like the Omni with Windows Mobile (and NOT Android)... Yeah, daydreaming ;)

Yeah, we always want it all, but you'll not get all that stuff in one device for a long time.
