Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I kinda feel like the beauty of the EEE PC is that it IS so cheap, so spending money on upgrading it seems a bit silly :( Are you upgrading yours tho? I have a 1GB RAM stick kicking around (well, in the missus' laptop but she'll never know ;)) and also a 4GB SD, and that'll be my upgrades done initially. That miniPCI Express slot is just crying out for something though :D P
Guest Monolithix Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I ordered a 1GB stick of mem with my EEE, for XP you can never have enough ;), and at 16 quid its hardly bank breaking. If I can get a tenner for the 512 currently in there and combine it with quidco, i come break even on it :(
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 2GB is even better...? ;) P
Guest Monolithix Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Yus but then you are getting into silly money, more than 10% the value of the laptop ;p I've also grabbed a 8GB SDHC, should be plenty for docs/pics/office and any other apps i might need regular access too. I'll be using the free space on my iPod for anything else ;)
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I can't believe how cheap this thing is. I have to look up some detailed specs.
Guest J273 Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 As anyone got a link to the ram this baby takes ;)
Guest Monolithix Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 You want DDRII 667MHz. Personally i went for the 1GB Kingston flavour at £16.43 orso from www.shop.bt.com ;)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 667MHz DDR2 SODIMM (laptop sized) is what u need. e.g. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/123910 (1GB) or http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131133 (2GB) P
Guest J273 Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Thanks guys i think ill have some of that.
Guest Monolithix Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Sorry, forgot to mention it should be SODIMM!
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 (edited) I've also grabbed a 8GB SDHC, should be plenty for docs/pics/office and any other apps i might need regular access too. I'll be using the free space on my iPod for anything else ;) Where are you getting the SDHC from mate and what format is it 1.8" ? OOOPPPS SDHC - Doh ! you're talking about the sdcard :| Edited November 13, 2007 by Subliminal Aura
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 That miniPCI Express slot is just crying out for something though :( Hmmmm Not sure here either http://www.hothardware.com/articles/Asus_E...howcase/?page=3 667MHz DDR2 SODIMM (laptop sized) is what u need. e.g. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/123910 (1GB) or http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131133 (2GB) P crucial.com/uk slightly cheaper but you get free delivery and better RAM ;) Mind you I'm skeptical about the CAS5 stuff on crucial.
Guest Monolithix Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 All DDR2 seems to be CAS5 nowadays though :/
Guest Alex (nedge2k) Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Bought two of these for my lappy the other day: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3274801/King...html?dpr=115001 Dropped in price by a pound since then too, bargain! ;)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Shame it only has one slot really! P
Guest Alex (nedge2k) Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Yeah but 1gb for XP is plenty for most and besides any more than that and you'd have to start fiddling with the virtual ram else it'll eat away at that tiny 4gb of storage.
Guest Alex (nedge2k) Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Tempted but might wait for this: http://www.slashgear.com/asus-eee-pc-8g-sp...play-138477.php ;)
Guest Monolithix Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Oh i fully intend on getting the 10" version if they keep the price! This will see me through til then though ;)
