Guest Subliminal Aura Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Any chance getting bootchart installed on the EEE ? So that we can see how it performs during boot up ;) http://www.bootchart.org/samples.html apt-get install bootchart (maybe if we're lucky)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 It's not in the repositories, so i've just downloaded the Debian .deb and installed it using 'sudo dpkg -i filename'. I've then edited the /boot/grub/menu.lst as instructed in the docs, but unfortunately on rebooting the file in /var/log isn't being created as I assume it should be. Any ideas? P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Oh, and /sbin/bootchartd does exist as you'd expect! SA - buy one! Sounds like you have a lot of good ideas ;) P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 OK, so got it into the boot menu now, but due to the weird unionfs the EEE uses, it's still not playing. Bugger! ;) P
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Nice unionfs. Try creating directory /var/log/bootchart and then rebooting... I get the feeling that if you've got bootchart working at the point the kernel loads then the files are hidden. Try the mkdir it might expose the files or search for then on the partitions that make up the union. ps When r we getting a pda friendly version of this site ;)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 I did try that, it didn't wanna play ;) I think the best way to proceed is to follow one of the tutorials for removing unionfs altogether... P
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 (edited) I think the best way to proceed is to follow one of the tutorials for removing unionfs altogether... Dangerous - why would you want to do that ? Xandros have made a lot of effort to union what I assume to be a combination of ramdisk and SSD partitions for performance and SSD saving purposes. Any chance you could show me the output of df -kT Find which script is creating the union find /etc/ -name "*" | xargs grep -i union find /etc/ -name "*" | xargs grep -i unionctl SA Edit http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=19424 looks like its done at init or initrd Forget getting bootchart working unless you know about how to create initrds :\ Edited November 19, 2007 by Subliminal Aura
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 I've now removed union using a guide on eeeuser (which i'll replicate here with a few tweaks), that's worked fine but bootchart still doesn't work! P

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Yeah, it seems to be done in init. Do I REALLY care about getting bootchart working? Not really ;) P
