Route 66 Major Problem

I've just purchased a copy of Route 66 Mobile 7 and tried to install it. I followed the instructions, got up to the point where it began to transfer files over to the memory card (via my memory card reader as instructed, not directly to phone) and an error message came up saying 'catastrophic error'. The card is now unreadable in any device (phone, PC, digital camera) and I still can't use the software. Has anyone else experienced something similar? And what do I do now? I've e-mailed Route 66 and TotalPDA where I bought the item from and i'm awaiting a response. Presumably there is no way I'm going to be reimbused for Route 66 destroying my memory card? What if I buy a new card and the exact same thing happens again? I can't just keep trying cards at £30 a go until it works! Any advice would be great, thanks in advance

Just an update to this-i've had replies from both TotalPDA (where I bought the software from) and Route 66 Support. Route 66 have said that you can not run the automatic installation if you are using an internal memory card reader, you need to use the manual install. I didn't find this information printed anywhere, but according to Route 66 it's tucked away on page 66 of the manual!! I've complained to them about this as surely anyone with an internal memory card reader who reads the installation instructions at the beginning of the manual (seperate from the more comprehensive instructions later) will instinctively use this and the automatic installation. TotalPDA were worse than useless, all they suggested was to keep trying new memory cards until it worked! ;)

Regarding the memory card itself, both deny all knowlege of Route 66 possibly damaging it. Route 66 support say that it's a coincidence and that they have no records of this happening before so i'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. Still annoyed that they put such important information on page 66 and give no mention of it in the quick install guide though! I mean, who wouldn't go straight for the quick installation notes and automatic installation unless told otherwise?

What size / type of card do you have?

Can you format the card in an external reader and try again?

I've had problems with some large capacity SD cards not working properly in some card readers (inc internal ones) but fine in other readers.

Isn't it nice to know you can rely on tech support? lol

Good luck!

It was a 2gb micro sd. Sadly no I can't format the card , it won't show up in any device anymore, tried my phone, internal and external card readers, my camera, the full works basically! Thing is, i've always used the same card and same reader for transferring files (which I do pretty regularly). I'm not sure I want to try my new 4gb card! Might just pick up a cheap 256mb card, least that way I can't lose £30!

Yeah the technical support from TotalPDA was a joke-their 'technical' advice goes as far as suggesting a new card, or contacting Route 66 and sorting it out yourself! Not sure quite how that classes as 'technical' anything! Basically the message I got from them was 'clear off and sort it out yourself, we've got your money now so we couldn't care less about your problems'.

While i'm on the subject, maybe Paul or one of the mods (are there any others, or is it just Paul?!) could set up a thread about good/bad online shops that sell smartphone goodies? People could comment on the service they've received and inform others as to whether they should order from a specific company. Could avoid people ordering from duff companies or getting ripped off. Oh, and just to balance it out a bit, I ordered my gps receiver from mobilefun and they were excellent, good prices, I placed my order at about 2pm and it arrived first thing next morning! Would definately recommend them.

P.S I would do this myself but it doesn't really come under any of the specific sections, i'm not just being lazy! ;)
