Guest Swampie Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 (edited) Through my (now expired) Modaco Plus subscription I got a copy of Opera Mobile - however I've since changed my device and now need to transfer the code. I tried going through Opera as they advertise how to get a new code - but I got a reply back saying: "Unfortunately we do not have an agreement with modaco.com so I can not transfer your license to your new device." Opera say "When you purchase Opera for Mobile you are entitled to transfer your license 2 times each year from the purchase date." http://www.opera.com/support/search/view/849/ Do I need to go through Modaco to get this new code - I'm guessing this is the case as they were the supplier of the original license. Thanks Edited November 22, 2007 by Swampie
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 A tricky one as it's not stated, however would it be fair to assume that you are eligible for new codes as long as your Plus subscription is still valid? P
Guest Swampie Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 A tricky one as it's not stated, however would it be fair to assume that you are eligible for new codes as long as your Plus subscription is still valid? P Well, unless otherwise stated, I would expect that the version of Opera I received as a Modaco Plus benefit would be the same as I'd receive by paying Opera directly (and that was actually the main reason I joined Modaco Plus - to get Opera). Therefore I'd expect that I could transfer Opera to any device, subject to Opera's published terms. And those terms do not appear to have any upper time limit, just max of 2 transfers per year. The fact the my Modaco Plus subscription has ended, shouldn't affect that. As an example, once an MSDN Subscription ends, you have perpetual rights to use any products obtained during the subscription period, and that includes activation of Vista etc after the end of the subscription. Similarly, even once your subscription has ended, you can phone and request product keys for products you had during your subscription. However, I can also understand a policy that benefits are only valid during the subscription period - but that would imply though that once your subscription has ended, you can't use anything from it. As you say, it's not stated, so I'm not sure what to expect. Once you've clarified it, I'll know whether I need to pay Opera some money. Thanks
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Looking at it from my perspective, I request codes from Opera and issue them to the user. Therefore, I think it reasonable that any activation codes issued during a Plus membership remain valid, but new codes are not issued after the membershiP has experied. P
