Just got a Touch and need a little expertise.

Hey ya'll, wow I have not visited this forum in about 5 years, glad to see its still around!!

I finally got myself a WM6 HTC Touch, very neat little device, and WM has come a long way.

I just need help finding a free program to covert video files for the Touch, I guess I would have to convert em to 320x240, and in mp4 format. Is there any good converters you can point me too.

I'll try and find Doom on my own ;)

To convert avi files use PocketDivXEncoder, once they're converted watch them with TCPMP. Both are free and IMO hard to beat ;)

Also I downloaded Google Earth and Oprah Browser. Is there any other essential Apps you can reccomend I load on to my phone?

Ive heard good things about wifiFoFum, its a FREE application that aggressively searches for access points for wifi, and it has a radar function which is cool, that allows you to navigate towards the closes access point.

signing up for orb.com i would also recommend, when set up it allows your phone to stream videos,music,pictures off of your computer. This allows you to save space on your phone by keeping the movies/music on your computer..and just use wifi to steam them to your phone.

I am also looking for apps for my phone, including games and msn application, so if you know of any good ones, or have any questions about either of the 2 i mentioned give me a shout

Messenger can be found on the web easily enough, just google duttythroy Windows Live 10.6.32.2100.cab, IMO PDAMill's games are pretty hard to beat. Other essentials are a decent file explorer. Resco Explorer is a must have, or for free you can use Total Commander

Not necessarily - TCPMP / CorePlayer play full-res (VGA/ NTSC) MPEG-4 Part 2 (DivX, XviD etc) video streams w/o problems on the Touch.

You'll wnat to use DoomPPC - it's the best Doom clone out there. I've posted several articles on it; use the forum search engine.

There are a lot of them; most importantly, Opera Mini (not sure if you referred to it as "Oprah Browser"). I recommend reading my previous articles and software reviews (mostly posted to this very forum) for some tips.
