Kaiser as a MP3 Player

Hi

I have been playing with my Kaiser as a MP3 player for the last week or so and I must admit I am very impressed, even with the supplied headphones the sound quality is better than my iPod Nano and that’s got half decent Sony headphones! I like the HTC Audio Manager software, it looks good and is easy to use (making play lists is a bit of a pain though.) So I think its time to retire the iPod and use my Kaiser as my main MP3 player (less stuff to carry for a start!) my only problem is I don’t like the supplied headset (I find it uncomfortable) so I would like some help with alternatives,

I have seen this adapter on expansys Link so I could use my own head phones, any one got this? Any good?

My other option is to go for bluetooth headphones, I like this idea but are they any good, I know I will loose some quality over wired but I can live with that if its not too bad, I have seen these Link Motorola S9’s on play for £39.99 which seams like a good price, any one got these working with a Kaiser? Any feedback, good or bad would be appreciated

Thanks in advance!

Didn't buy it from there but looks the same, and it works great. I didn't even think about trying the ones included in the box.. Didn't think they'd be worth touching!

One note though, look into the remote control that you can buy for the Kaiser. IIRC, that actually does the job of the adapter, but also (obviously) gives you the function of the remote control, so you don't have to wake up the device and you can leave it in your pocket ;)

Thanks for that Lozzd, just had at look at it and it looks ideal, do you know if it workis with the HTC Audio Manager or is it WMP only?

It works just fine with Audio Manager.

Thanks for that, I think I will order one of these this afternoon!

Who needs more than 8gb of music in their pocket anyway...

Indeed. Precisely why I have an 8GB iPod Nano.

I was hoping to retire it with the advent of 'large' microSD cards and my Kaiser. But I'm not convinced yet - mostly due to the fact that some kind of headset adaptor is required if you want to use your own headphones. I opted for a Bluetooth adaptor dooberry and I'm just not convinced it's a slick enough combo to consider ditching the iPod for yet (too many button presses to get going and too many dropouts to be a wholly satisfactory experience). There's just something about the 'pick up and play' aspect of a dedicated MP3 player that is missing from the Kaiser. Still, you can't have everything!

Not quite sure why but THIS is advertised as being the TyTN II model of the adaptor.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be little if any difference in the 2 and its just a clever ploy to get a few more quid out of our pockets!

Hmm yeah, it is tad annoying to remember the adapter. But something you live with. Easier than carrying around an ipod, which is larger :D

Pick up and play worked very well on the iPhone when I tried it out about 3 months ago, which was about the only plus along with the pretty, clever, interface. For some reason doesn't seem right on the Kaiser... BUT I do do it, and I've never had any audio dropouts, fwiw.

As for button presses. Start -> WMP -> select from library -> hit play.. seems the same as an ipod to me :( or if you have MS Voice command, even better, press button "Play anything" or "play artist X" :D

I use a pair of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shure-Se210-Sound-...s/dp/B000POGDVG

And one of these: http://www.expansys.com/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=148542

Works perfectly. Don't have to remember the adapter, because it's half of the headphone cable. I use Mortplayer, which means I get better control over the buttons, etc. To start it up I press one hardware key and then 'Play'.

I have had drop-outs, mainly on the train when switching from once Cell to another. I think this is actually to do with PhoneAlarm processing potential profile switches based on location. I believe Pocketmusic had fewer (no) dropouts when I tried it, but I prefer mort and it doesn't happen enough to be a problem.

Yeah I quite fancy one of those remotes. I already have some Sony in ear headphones which are great and have a removable extension for when you're using the remote, so that would be perfect.

Webreaper, are you saying you have the remote setup and working with Mortplayer? All the threads I have read complain that it only works with wmp and audio manager. If you have managed to map the buttons please let us know how and I will buy one! Got the se210s too so looking forward to using them...

Well after saying I was going for the wired remote I noticed that Play.com had dropped the price of the Moto S9’s to £34.99, which I think is a bit of a bargain! (Went in to my local Orange shop yesterday and they were £69.99) So I have ordered a set, I will see how I get on with them and if they are no good at least I have not wasted too much money! :(

I recently bought the Moto S9 bluetooth headset over the weekend and it works great with the Tytn2...

Been using an ancient XDA IIi for years now (expecting my Vario III tomorrow!) with a 2GB SD card and bluetooth headphones as my mp3 player and I've been more than happy with it. All I have to do is turn on my headphones and the BT on my XDA and I am ready to listen to glitchless playback. Can't see why the Kaiser would be any different. The headphones (itech bluebands) aren't the best in terms of quality but they do for me and I can take calls through them. As for dropouts I'd say they are 95% reliable.

Nope, I'm not saying that at all. :(

As you say the W100 can't control any music app other than WMP (and, hence, HTC Audio Manager, since it's just a layer on top of WMP). Apparently they implemented this using a custom WMP extension rather than a proper button driver, so no other apps can hook into it. It's a PITA.

Having said that, I don't really find it an issue; I have a hardware button set up to play/pause while Mortplayer's running (even if it's locked/in standby) so it's a single button-press to stop playback. I don't ever really fwd/rev tracks. And the remote does work for answering/hanging up calls as that's not part of the WMP interface (although because the sound-insulation is so good on the Shures I find it almost impossible to take a call without shouting, so usually if I have a call I either pop out the headphones and answer the call normally or (more usually) let it go to voicemail and continue listening to music. :D

So for what I need, it works just fine.

so what is the best pair of bluetooth headphones? (around £35) getting fed up with expansys not getting any of the wired sets in. also how much of a drop in battery can i expect when using them?

But if all you use for music is the HTC Audio Manager, it's a brilliant bit of kit...

Although if it's in my pocket, there does seem to be a slight issue if the cable folds "wrong" by the actual USB plug, it can crackle or cut out one ear briefly... <_>

Well, my S9’s have turned up and I have just used them on my way to work today, have to say quite impressed! As other posters have said they are not very adjustable but with a bit of playing around I have got them quite comfortable. Had quite a few drop outs to start with when my phone in my top pocket but then moved it to my bag and bingo no drop outs at all, overall £35 quid well spent I think! :(
