Guest cheshire_carper Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 Hi there, I have a Kaiser (great piece of kit) and need to mount it safely in my Passat. The GPS pickup seems good on the unit but could anyone with a 'brodit' type holder, on the dash, tell me if the embedded GPS hardware manages to get a fix from that position. I can leave it on the passenger seat and it still gets a fix (unlike my old Quest (great piece of kit too!). any tips? I was also looking at the sucker type holders but feared they would a: look iffy and b: drop off. Any help/tips welcomed.
Guest tinyk Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 I have a toledo and it mounted on a brodit holder in the middle of the dash (above and to right of sterio) i would say only the very top of the phone is above the top of the dash and then only a little bit of it. I dont find any problems with GPS or calls in that position. In fact my N95 used to drop calls on my route home but the Tytn II holds it in the same place, also gps on the N95 was dreadful mounted in the same place, only time i have really had a problem is when surronded by very large buildings on a narrow street apart from that its been fine. Hope this helps
Guest mandt Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 (edited) Works perfectly, and the Brodit holders are excellent. You won't be disappointed :( buy from here: http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/hold...odit-Holder.asp Brodit don't do rubber sucky mounts, you need a proclip tailored to suit your car Edited November 27, 2007 by mandt

How do you squeeze them into the gap?
Guest mandt Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 The plastic is very thin, but surprisingly strong. fitting is very easy, all in all a great design.

Many thanks Trying to decide on an active charger one or not now as I read about the units that have been blown up (usb port damage) :D :( :D :D

If you don't want to do that, then there are more generic holders for most cars that can fit elsewhere. One drawback of the active mount is that you can't then use an adapter to allow splitting of the USB port- eg if you use an FM transmitter to play your music via the car radio, it will not be able to connect with the active mount. I've never seen any voltage problems with these devices- some of the aftermarket cigarrette lighter USB power supplies are much more likely to cause trouble.

Guest hotphil Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 My Kaiser has no problems getting a GPS fix even in poor weather and sat in the cup holder underneath the dashboard - no line of sight out of the windscreen. I was pretty impressed (especially as the windscreen is a heated one with the wires in it which I'd heard lessened the GPS signal).
Guest Chris Hanley Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I've owned 4 different Brodit mounts (Compaq 3650, HP 2215, HTC Wizard, & HTC Kaiser) with 3 different car adapters (Saturn SL2, Chevy Suburban, & Ford Taurus.) All device and car mounts have been wonderful & I've never had a problem with the power connectors/adapters. They're a little pricey, but the best mount available (IMHO.)
Guest cheshire_carper Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I ordered my mount from DSL last week, the day I typed this thread, whatever day that was (!) I don't have it yet though so cannot comment. They must be busy or have to ship them in.
Guest pndragon Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 As much as I'd like a Brodit, I'm thinking a more fluid system would be better for my needs as my significant other and I both share a car so we'd like to be able to both use the same mount for our devices rather than one just for my Tilt. Anyone have a recommendation on a good tilt+adjustable mount?
