Shortcuts for email on the BJ2

Hello, I just acquired a BJ2 in the US and have not been able to make the shortcuts for email work. When I press the "0" key the list of shortcuts comes up. But when I try to hit any of the shortcut keys (e.g. 2 for reply) nothing happens.

Help!

the keyboard needs to be in 'numeric' mode for the shortcuts to work. press the function key twice to get it in numeric mode (i think)

You are right. Don't know what I was thinking. I almost returned it to the store for that reason :(
