Guest Monolithix Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Dunno if this is common knowledge or not, but it turns out that it looks like the CPU is locked to 630MHz, not just in low power mode as previously thought... http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3166&p=3 As with the pagefile thing, i had my suspicions but have not had the time to get round to checking. XP seems to be fine with this, still a shame though.
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 (edited) Good things come to those who can wait :( This citation from wikipedia is the reason why I didn't buy. A 900mhz celeron is slower than a pentium-m 900mhz(Banias)... Having had a look at the youtube videos there was no way the eee could handle running eclipse for me. " ASUS plans to introduce second-generation Eee PCs in April 2008 which are meant to feature Intel's Merom processors. The power consumption of the next-generation notebooks will reduce to 7W TDP, down from 11W TDP, and the fan might be removed to save more power and reduce noise. " Not sure how much truth is in that but imagine a dual core Merom in one of these babies :D Edited November 30, 2007 by Subliminal Aura
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Then again looking @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel...rs#Core_2_Duo_2 It could well just be a single core albeit with faster clock and better architecture than a celeron. Guest lau Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 I've heard that you just have to update the BIOS, is this true?
Guest Monolithix Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 No idea. The only bios update i ahve available is from July, and i haven't checked wich is currently on my eee. Might be worth a shot...
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 AFAIK it's locked to 630, and there's no real tweaks for that as yet? Not sure if I want to reduce battery life anyway, as that's it's real win :( P
