Clock Speed Locked to 630MHz?

Dunno if this is common knowledge or not, but it turns out that it looks like the CPU is locked to 630MHz, not just in low power mode as previously thought...

As with the pagefile thing, i had my suspicions but have not had the time to get round to checking. XP seems to be fine with this, still a shame though.

This citation from wikipedia is the reason why I didn't buy. A 900mhz celeron is slower than a pentium-m 900mhz(Banias)... Having had a look at the youtube videos there was no way the eee could handle running eclipse for me.

It could well just be a single core albeit with faster clock and better architecture than a celeron.

I've heard that you just have to update the BIOS, is this true?

No idea. The only bios update i ahve available is from July, and i haven't checked wich is currently on my eee. Might be worth a shot...

AFAIK it's locked to 630, and there's no real tweaks for that as yet?

Not sure if I want to reduce battery life anyway, as that's it's real win :(
