Email send problems on Wifi

I have the E650 on Orange, using mail.btinternet.com for POP3 (send & receive).

I can send & receive emails when using GPRS, with authentication on, no problems (just slooooow).

When using wifi, I can download emails & surf at high speed BUT if I reply to an email (or compose new one) & try send/receive I get the msg (truncated!):

"Errors occurred...msgs cannot be sent.....make sure you have network coverage....and account info correct.."

Its not network though as will download new emails but won't send. As soon as I delete the email from the Outbox all is fine again.

Have tried this on various wifi connections across Europe and always same problem so assume not my router settings.

Seen some suggestions that will only work if I use an Orange mail server such as: smtp.orange.net. Tried this & the email gets sent but immediately rejected as not authenticated. (Don't have an Orange a/c.)

Since I got the phone I've been running the MoDaCo de-brand & fix packs, could it be these?

Any ideas? This is a real pain in my a$$ now!
