Repairs, replacements and rights. Help?

A good day to you all, as I'm not having one.

Over a month ago I took my SPV E650 to my local Orange store for repair. The up direction key had stopped working intermittantly and the slide mechanism had become very loose. I reported both these faults to the young lady who seemed quite uninterested. After over a month of chasing, the store informed me that I could collect my handset. Upon inspecting it I found that they had done nothing to repair the slide as it was still loose, and it seems that the assistant in store had failed to record this fault. I argued that maybe they should replace the unit for me, but with it being a Sunday, they could do nothing without their manager, so I was to await a call from the manager the next day. I begrudgingly took the handset. Upon turning the phone on, I found that the screen was seriously cracked and displaying nothing more than a few lines of light from the cracked LCD. I did return to the store after discovering this, but I still need to wait to speak to the manager, which is fair enough I guess.

At long last we get to my query. As far as I understand, under consumer law, if a repair causes significant inconvenience, I am entitled to a replacement. I consider over a month of waiting and a freshly vandalised phone a significant inconvenience. Can anyone confirm that this interpretation of my rights is correct, and what further rights do I have if the phone has been damaged whilst in Orange's hands?

Please excuse this long winded post, I am feeling quite frustrated with this whole debacle. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Haydn.

hi, mabey you can do it over the phone, i had a restarting problem my phonr would just continuosly keep restarting if i turned it off, even after a cold boot. Orange CS diddnt know what the problem was (obviously) so they sent me a new one and took away the old one, so i suggest u try over the phone. It also had upgraded firmware i think diddnt have any of the problems i used to, backlight, installation problems etc.
