Any way to silence camera on Blackjack II?

Is there any way to turn the shutter sound off on the camera? I know the phone uses the sounds like \windows\camera_shutter_great.snd for the WAV files that contain the sounds. But these files are in ROM and cannot be changed! I was hoping to just replace one of the files with a blank WAV file. Any ideas? A search through the registry and file system yielded me no results.

Thanks in advance.

As a work-around, set phone to Silent.

go into the camera, then go to menu, then options, and select camera, scroll down to sounds. then select your sounds or off

There is no "Off" setting, at least not on my handset. The only choice you have is which annoying shutter sound you want to hear. However, as the previous user said, if your phone is using the Silent profile, the camera won't make a sound. My phone is always on Vibrate and I can confirm that the camera is also silent when using that profile.

Here's my fix, use it at your own risk:

In the windows directory of your BJ II, all camera shutter files start with camera_shutter_XXXX.snd

I tried to make a new sound, but there must be a config file somewhere (maybe in the ROM) that only allows those predetermined file names.

Go download the trial (free) version of switch or use your favorite sound format conversion utility:

http://www.nch.com.au/switch/

On your PC, right click and select New>Wav Sound.

Name it camera_shutter_great.wav

I used "great" because I think that shutter sound is moronic and I wanted to replace it.

Using Switch, convert it to camera_shutter_great.au

Since .au and .snd sound files are the same, rename the file to camera_shutter_great.snd

Now copy it from your desktop (right click>copy) to your BJ II using activesync's explore button and then cut paste it into the \Windows directory of your BJ II.

It will ask you if you want to replace the existing file, select yes and there you go.

Select great as your shutter sound in the camera options and silence!

You might want to copy the original camera_shutter_great.snd file to your \temp directory.

You can also use this software to convert any sounds to the right format for the various sounds throughout the device.

Update: I also did this to replace the annoying zoom in, out, brightness up and down sounds when using the click wheel/D pad. Those files are named zoomin.snd, zoomout.snd, bright.snd and dark .snd and are in the same \Windows folder.

Lower the earpiece volume with side rocker all the way down. it's a pain I know but an easy fix for those james bond moments.

You don't need to go through all that.

Just open notepad, save a blank file as camera_shutter_[name].snd then c/p it to the \Windows\ directory, and it'll work just fine.
