Guest andy_sutton Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Anyone figure out how to turn off the startup sound on the at&t/BJII? Appears to be a branding sound and not the normal Windows startup.

Transfer them using activesync and then cut and paste on your BJII to the \windows directory and replace the original ones. No more sound.

I App-Unlocked the phone but still no joy. Did you do anything to unlock your phone more than SDA_Unlock?
Guest kpy Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 It's giving me an access denied on copying the file. I App-Unlocked the phone but still no joy. Did you do anything to unlock your phone more than SDA_Unlock? At first, I tried to copy the files over using Windows Explorer from my PC and that did not work. You have to use the activesync, which drops the files into your \My Documents folder on your BJ II. Then, from your PC, open activesync and click on the Explore button in the top right. Go to your \My Documents folder on the BJ II and select the wav files and right click and cut. Then go up a directory, then down to the \Windows directory and right click and paste. It should ask you if you want to replace the exisiting files and just say yes. That should get you by the permissions issues. And yes, I used the GPS unlock hack so it works with Google Mobile Maps (which works great, BTW), but I dont think that it would be needed for this, but not sure.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I don't have a BJ2, but look for start.wav and stop.wav in the registry and you'll likely find where they are referenced (and be able to remove / change)! P

Followed instructions exactly and it just won't let me overwrite the existing one. Tried renaming the existing start.wav as well but just won't let me do that either. Did plenty of other hacks like GPS, registry hacks, etc. and no problem there. That annoying swoosh everytime I reboot (it is Windows) just turns too many heads and I'm determined to silence it somehow.
Guest kpy Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Maybe someone can tell us how to change permissions on these (and other) protected files. That would be a big help. Dont know why mine worked and yours did not.

At last, an end to that BS "Whoosh" that sounds like it belongs on a Gameboy or something. It has alway sbeen an embarassment. So, now I am free, I am expressing myself :( Instead of silence, I have gone with some customized speech files to express myself. Oh, and for the frustrated BJ1 Owners cruising this Forum, I've even made one for you :D Enjoy! Thanks for showing us the way to freedom guys! MadSci PS: I also use a couple of WAVs captures. Shutdown from Silence of the Lambs ("I'd love to stay and chat, but I'm having a friend for dinner"), and start up from the Pink Panther ("I am from the fuuuun company, there is something rong wit yurrr phuuun"). I will refrain from uploading them here out of respect for MoDaCo's content rules, but you get the idea :DA_T___T_Sucks_US_Eng_Male.wavGood_Riddance_AT_T_UK_Male.wavA_T___T_Where_is_my_Windows_Mobile_6.wav
Guest andy_sutton Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 Followed the steps from the unlock thread 1. Install regeditstg on your phone and change the following: * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies000 1001 = 2 --> Change the value data from 2 to 1 * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies000 1005 = 16 --> Change the value data from 16 to 40 * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies000 1017 = 128 --> Change the value data from 128 to 144 * Reboot the phone Note: Don't worry if the existing value data numbers (2, 16 and 128) aren't the same as on your phone. 2. Run the SDA_Application Unlock tool on your PC. Reboot the phone after it finishes. Once I did this I still couldn't overwrite the \windows\start.wav from explorer through activesync but when I copied it to the phone, then used Resco Explorer to move it from \My Documents\start.wav to \windows\start.wav it worked. Yeah!!!
