Haha not gonna lie that's kind of creepy. I respect others' opinions but I can assure you your daughter will not appreciate you doing that.

I agreed, but as a father I do worry when my kids are sometimes, "supposedly: from Mon to Fri they are attending school, and if they ended up somewhere else, we will know ; ), we had an incident already, this for sure will give me and my wife the peace of mind.. teenagers sometimes take very irresponsible decisions, and I don't blame them, I too was a teenager once, and if it wasn't for my dad that kept me on the right track, I probably would be lost now... of course as every teenager I hated my dad for doing that, but now I am older, have kids and I understand.. that he was only taking care of us. Guys dont forget there is another safety factor - should your kid get kidnapped (we seen this happen many times right except many of us dont think it will happen to us - ar at least hope that it wont) or should you kid get lost hiking or in the mountains, then this might be one way to to help locate them. From what I understand GPS signals are different from cell signals so even though they may not have cell coverage in a remote area, they may have GPS coverage

Guest arturk Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 (edited) CoPilot 7 by ALK has neat feature called "Live location tracking on the Internet". The only problem is that CoPilot 7 is not working with BJII at the moment. I am hoping this problem will be resolved at some point. Edited December 13, 2007 by arturk

Thanks for pointing this out - well that blows my theory of safety. Good that I know this now instead of when me or my kid is stranded on a ledge in some remote mountain. Oh well

Guest thelostsoul Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 http://www.satellite-gps-locator.com/ not sure if thats what your looking for, cheers. Meh...this is a serious topic. Funny, but not relevant and more annoying than anything else. @the topic of this thread: Even if there is an app, I'm thinking of two problems: -She could just close it and it won't report anymore (at least, that's what I'd do) -It would seriously drain the battery. Currently, from what I understand, the GPS is not always on. When enabled, it uses a lot of power. It would need to be enabled to report such signals. And from what I hear, the batter with constant GPS will only last a few hours max. That means if something were to happen, it would remove even the possibility of locating via cell tower triangulation as the phone would be dead. So while it's with good intentions, I don't think the positives outweigh the negatives. Just my thoughts though...

Wrong. The Samsung BlackJack II rocks a full-fledged SiRF III GPS receiver. Either way I was GOING to say to get your teenage daughter a Disney Mobile phone but they closed down operations on 12/31/07. My wife has a close friend who has a 12 year old daughter and got her one of these. She showed us one time by logging on to the mobile website and bam, there was a tracking dot with her location.

Guest SoberGuy Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 There's a few programs out there, though I cannot say if they work on the BJII. I'm currently looking at getting one for my daughter, and the tracking is a must, for me. Should it ever be stolen, lost, or God-forbid, she be kidnapped, I'd like to be able to locate the phone. That said, the options I've found are W.I.M.P. (Where Is My Phone), Ultimate Theft alert, and Mobile Justice. At least one is open source and free, and the prices for the paid ones, to me, are pretty reasonable. The programs run in the background, and can be configured to be completely hidden. They will detect if a new SIM card is inserted, and send a text to a pre-programmed numbers (yours, for instance), alerting you that the phone is using a SIM card other than your daughter's (along with the phone number of the new SIM). From there, or at any point in time, you can send a specially formatted text message to the phone. It will silently open GPS, get a fix on the position, and send you a text of the coordinates, and at least program includes a link in that text message to a map of the exact location. I believe at least one of the programs includes direction, heading, and speed. I'm just looking into these, so I'm not sure what program does what, but those are the three options I see as viable.
Guest Confucious Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 A search on google has located quite a few sites such as http://www.traceamobile.co.uk/ - but as I'm in these are all UK sites - don't you have anything similar in the US?

Well, I think what I posted above is about the best option, as it's something available internationally. It takes a little configuring and setting up, but it's the best for what I need, which is pretty similar to the OPs needs. And the GPS coordinates can be plugged directly into Google Maps on a desktop, if his device doesn't have GPS.
Guest jerome5136 Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I've wanted to do this for a long time, so I'm coding my own. About halfway done with the first version. Nothing fancy and it's pretty BJII specific. Runs invisible. It intercepts a specially formatted SMS, turns on the GPS, gets a fix, and SMS's the coordinates back to the caller formatted as a google maps link and turns the GPS off. I'm going to add commands to persistently send the coords to a webservice over the internet link that will give live tracking options on the web. I hadn't thought about the SIM card changing notification, but I like it. Anyone interested in a specific set of features?
Guest airboss Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I gave the bj2 to my daughter for her b-day, and I would like to use the GPS in the phone to be able to track her movements. : ) Is here any way to do this? Take a look at Mologo.com. With just about any application though, your daughter will have to cooperate with you as far as keeping the application running unless you can find something that runs hidden in the background. As others have stated though, battery life will go fast.
Guest jerome5136 Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 ok. test version is done. it uses the intermediate driver. anyone that feels like testing, PM me.
Guest nycnerd Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 (edited) I am using navizon currently to track myself :). It works based on Cell phone triangulation and starting the GPS is not required. That means less battey drain. Also we can control the location update frequency (in seconds or minutes whatever). It can be added to startup and works fine unless we kill it. Just configure it once and leave it running. I have managed to add the tracker to my blog using google API and some simple html code. It's cool. Definitely a background program is better. Edited January 13, 2008 by nycnerd

I use trackr.eu to track myself. You can download a program that you run on the phone and it reports your GPS location to the web site. You can then go to the site to see live tracks. If you try to spy on her, this probably wouldn't work. First of all, there is this program running on the phone. You have to hit Ok a few times for it to run. Besides, the battery will run out quickly with GPS turned on. zman

IT DOES. It can use the cell towers AS WELL, which comes in handy in google maps. But make no mistake, it has full fledged GPS support and aquires 10-12 sattelites but usually uses 5-9 to calculate it's position.
Guest Nottach Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) Sprite terminator can return lat/long values along with a map of their location. Sprite Terminator. Also gives call logs and more. Edited March 12, 2008 by Nottach
