Guest spares Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 There are references to getting the GPS on the BlackJack II to work with standalone Apps. Has anyone tried to get Garmin Mobile XT running? I would rather use a standalone software based solution rather then GoogleMaps or TelNav... Spares
Guest mjbusna05 Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Has anyone tried to get Garmin Mobile XT running? Spares, I just purchased Garmin Mobile XT from Amazon for $78 and a 4 GB microSD card to try to load it on. I think I may have figured out a way to load the software onto another microSD card vice the 2 GB card that comes with the programs. It should arrive later this week and I will update it as soon as I get it working. According to the Garmin site the Blackjack 2 is listed as a compatible device. Hope this helps and I will keep you updated. -Matt
Guest mjbusna05 Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 So I received Garmin Mobile XT in the mail today and so far it is running like a champ. I tried it both with and without the GPS patch (hard reset between each attempt) and both times the program was able to acquire a GPS fix from my home office desk after a few minutes. I did have to point the program in the right direction by going to the GPS settings and selecting GPS Intermediate Driver as the place to search for the signal. The GPS settings page can be found by going Menu > Settings > #2 System > #1 Remote GPS. All I did was pop the included memory card into the Blackjack 2 and install the Mobile XT cab file and run the program. Then went to GPS settings as mentioned above and it was able to acquire a fix with and without the patch installed. While I was at it I tested Google Maps without the GPS Patch installed after a fresh hard reset and it too found the GPS and was able to pick up satellites pretty quickly. Again I went to google.com/gmm and downloard and ran the cab. The I opened the program and after I clicked Use GPS and it showed my position within a few moments. First it said "Seeking satellites..." then it said "GPS Active (# of Sats in use)..." and displayed my positions. I was able to get up to 8 satelittes sitting in my home office. Satellite reception will be dependant on the environment you are in (buildings, cloud cover, etc.) I believe that since Google Maps and apparently Mobile XT both are capable of using the intermediate GPS driver they can both be used without applying the GPS patch. As soon as I get my 4GB microSD card I will begin experimenting with transferring the Mobile XT program from the original 2GB card to a different larger memory card, i.e. my own 4GB one.
Guest foghelmut Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 As soon as I get my 4GB microSD card I will begin experimenting with transferring the Mobile XT program from the original 2GB card to a different larger memory card, i.e. my own 4GB one. Were you able to do this? From what I understand, Garmin locks the microSD card somehow. Also, does Garmin give you voice directions as you drive?
Guest mjbusna05 Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Yes I was able to get Mobile XT running on a seperate memory card....PM for details. MobileXT gives voice directions but does not have text-to-speech capability. -Matt
