Windows Live Messenger - Unable to Connect

I am having problems signing in with Windows Live Messenger (Version 10.6.0026.1400)

for over a week when atempting to sign in I get a messege "There was a problem with the server. Please try again later" after pressing retry a couple of times I managed to get logged in. For the past two days I have been unable to connect at all.

I can sync my contacts with windows live, its just messenger that is having a problem.

Also I am able to sign into with a different client, Mundu messenger, without problem.

I am running this on an HTC S710 and I am located in the Netherlands. The same problem occurs using WiFi or over GPRS (Vodafone)

After the connect has failed I find that my network connection will not disconnect - it keeps re-connecting untill I re-boot the phone.

I have also tried un-installing and re-installing windows live.

Anyone have any idea whats going on??

Mike.

I have the same problem.

Also s710 and Vodafone NL

It seems like Vodafone is blocking Windows Live Messenger since a few days.

No clue why.

Here someone says that vodafone is blocking it.

I took a look at that message and posted this reply:

On my HTC S710 I started getting the problem about a week ago, but a couple of retries got me signed in. But for the past two days I have been unable to connect at all. I get the same error connecting with WiFi.

After atempting to connect I find that if I close messenger and try to disconnect my network connection then the phone will try and connect with GPRS - I have to re-boot the phone to stop this happening.

I am however able to connect to the MSN Messenger service with another client - Mundu IM, and Windows Live is able to connect to sync my contacts.

The problem appears to be specific to the Microsoft client.

I did see a big advertisements in the dutch press about windows live being available in the Netherlands on Tuesday - same time as the problems got worse - is this related to the problem?

Odd... as an alternative you could use the IM bridging in Palringo?

P

I have no problem when I use the Mundu IM client - much the same I guess as Palringo, I just had the Mundu client already :(

True, true :D

You can't join the MoDaCo chat group on Mundu tho :( hehe...

Can't say i've ever used Mundu, might give it a try!

Just tried Palringo(free, only sign up) through GPRS and it's working fine on MSN...it seems microsoft is blocking or having troubles with the Windows Mobile Live Messenger.

Hi guys,

I have been having this problem over the past week. I don't think it's network specific. I get the same error message over WiFi and I've tried a T-Mobile UK and 3 UK simcard.

I am using the MDA Vario II / Hermes.

Not sure what's going on???

I have no problem using a 3rd party client (Mundu IM) and at the weekend I could connect with windows live messenger - first I disabled the phone radio and used Wi-fi to connect - this worked fine, so I then enabled GPRS and disabled Wi-Fi - that also worked.

Today I am again unable to connect when using windows Live messenger with GPRS.

(On GPRS I use the live.vodafone.com apn but I do not use the HTTP vodafone live proxy).

If re-boot & disable the phone radio I can sign in over Wi-Fi again. If I don't do a re-boot after atempting a GPRS connection then the login always fails. But if I sign in over Wi-Fi with the phone radio disabled and the re-enable the Radio I can sign in with GPRS.

The problem only appears to happen if I first attempt a GPRS sign in with windows live messenger.

- I can however sign in to MSN with Mundu-IM over GPRS or Wi-Fi

So is vodafone/msn blocking the GPRS sign in???

Hello again,

I have found something interesting which somene else mentioned in this thread. When I take out the simcard and switch on WiFi I can login but with the simcard in I cannot login via WiFi even if I switch off the phone.

It's like messenger knows the simcard is there even when it's switched off. I don't get it?

Remember 3 X-Series blocks the MSN ports for "normal" WLM!

I am experiencing the same problem using Pocket MSN on my Orange UK SPV C600. It is a WM5 device. I would have thought the use of Messenger from a Windows Mobile device was a huge blip on the Microsoft radar - but no mention of a service problem to be found!

Best regards, Kev

Mine is working intermittantly.

Works about 0400 which is no use to anyone, so it doesnt seem to have been totally blocked

Assisted from mobile.live.com team, I have solved the problem in that way:

1 - Access with PC and save contacts

2 - Delete contacts on PC Messenger

3 - Access with mobile (now it works!): the program will automatically clear the contacts list

4 - Access with PC and re-load contact file previously saved

5 - Access with mobile and the program will show the reloaded contact list.

Hope it should be useful for other Windows Mobile users.

Greetings from Italy.
