Remove SD Card on the fly

Can it be done without doing any harm to the files stored on the card?

removing the micro card when the phone is one i mean.

Yes - I use a USB reader to transfer large files to the card (eg. MP3s) and would not bother switching off the phone before removing it.

You can answer calls etc with the card out but you shouldn't start any programs that need files stored on there.
