Guest garethjknight Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find anything after searching the forum. My new Kaiser is unbeliveably slow when scrolling web pages in IE using "Desktop" view. With graphics-heavy pages, it it practically unusable. Switching to "Fit to screen" view improves things to a certain extent, but can often hide parts of the page or render them unreadable. It is much slower than my M600, which is strange as I would expect (naively?) an improvement with the Kaiser's faster processor. This is a bit of a problem for me as I don't have the 'net at home and use my phone quite a lot for web browsing and downloading etc. Is there a tweak for this, or can anyone recomend another browser that would perform better? Aside from this, I have to say that I am more than pleased with this device after having it just over a week. The extra size/weight is more than made up for by the additional features, especially the built-in GPS which seems more accurate than my old external BT device that I used with the M600. Any advice would be appreciated - Thanks
Guest mandt Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 Close PIE properly using X-Button, then extract the .dll from the zip I've attached here and paste it into \Windows Now watch it fly :( webviewdll.zip
Guest KevinAlbrecht Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 Close PIE properly using X-Button, then extract the .dll from the zip I've attached here and paste it into \Windows Now watch it fly :( webviewdll.zip What does this DLL do? I would be interested if this is a patch that I should try as well!
Guest lozzd Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 I installed that new webview.dll and my web browsing experience is still shocking. It will lock up at pages only slightly complex. Can't remember if it was worse or not
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 The easy solution of course is to use Opera / Opera Mini... P
Guest KevinAlbrecht Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 The easy solution of course is to use Opera / Opera Mini... P Paul, What needs to be done after installing Opera? Do I remove IE? I would think it a hassle to have multiple browsers loaded, no?
Guest garethjknight Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Close PIE properly using X-Button, then extract the .dll from the zip I've attached here and paste it into \Windows Now watch it fly :( webviewdll.zip Thanks for that Mandt - works great now. had a couple of problems after installing where IE froze on opening, but after a couple of resets it works fine and certainly does fly! Cheers...
Guest lozzd Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 The easy solution of course is to use Opera / Opera Mini... P Which is better then?! :(
Guest Webreaper Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 What's the deal with this webview.dll? Where did it come from and what does it do which is different? Googling it gives a thousand malware hits, so I'm not installing it until I know where it came from. :(
Guest johnyysmith Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Strange. If I google that file name I only get 4 hits. Yes the first is the Prevx anti malware site which has a classification for 'YSI.SENIOR.WEBVIEW.DLL' but that is not the same as webview.dll
Guest mandt Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I got it from an old thread at xda-devs, its extracted from an older PIE build or something. All that matters it is greatly improves scrolling in PIE when viewing large pages :(
Guest Boinng Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 My only worry with this older webview.dll is that they probably changed the file for a reason. The slowness of the newer version is probably just a side effect of some other change they made, and the fact that they applied that invisible change without regard to the negative effect it had suggests to me it may have been a security fix. The older file may be leaving PIE open to some form of exploit.
Guest garethjknight Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 The easy solution of course is to use Opera / Opera Mini... P Just installed Opera and I have to say, I won't be going back to PIE...
Guest FlexiPack Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I don't know if this is using the same dll file method mentioned above but this IE scroll fix comes in an easy cab install format, i'm pretty sure got it from XDA-DEVs but i've no idea which thread now. I've installed it and it's fine and seems to work too though i haven't given it thorough road test as i got fed up of PIE and switched to opera mini which i loveIE_Slow_Scroll_Fix_for_Kaiser_Tilt.cab
Guest Kaiser Wilhelm II Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 The easy solution of course is to use Opera / Opera Mini... P I've been extremely disappointed with the performance of Opera Mobile on my Kaiser. Opera Mini is great though. However, it does have some restrictions on account of not being a 'real' browser.

However, it does have some restrictions on account of not being a 'real' browser. One of the restrictions on Opera's latest mobile version is its inability to copy and paste text into the URL.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 That's exactly why i'm looking forward to Opera Mobile 9. A 'real' (native) app with Opera 9 browsing engine. Mmm.... P
